Meghan Markle’s actions while helping wildfire evacuees in Los Angeles were oddly described by a reporter on live television, and have since been mocked by American political commentator, Candace Owens.
After the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ visit to a wildfire zone in California, a reporter described the actions of Meghan Markle while talking to the local mayor of Pasadena.
She said: “It looked as if the two of them might really want to be helpful. I saw actually Meghan Markle stoop down and take off the lid of a plastic bin. Do they really want to get down and dirty?”
Candace Owens mocked the situation in a TikTok clip: “That’s how I knew my girl was real and I just want to thank Meghan for doing that. It’s very helpful for her to stoop down and do that.”
Owens added: “If there’s any plastic bins that you guys see around that need picking up, you can hit up your girl Meghan Markle”.

The video has been liked 28K times with many social media users commenting on the interaction.
One user disagreed with the mocking, stating: “Emotional support is even important. So thank you to them.”
Whereas another agreed: “Meghan can’t miss a publicity opportunity.”
Meghan and Harry walked with the city’s mayor Victor Gordo, and spoke to volunteers and evacuees, helping with disaster relief on January 10. It is reported the couple donated essential supplies, served meals with World Central Kitchen and connected with affected families and elderly individuals.
Pasadena Mayor, Victor Gordo, described the couple’s efforts in a short sentence, saying Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, “really buoyed the spirits of the first responders.”

Through their Archewell Foundation, it is reported Harry and Meghan have contributed monetary donations and plan to continue supporting recovery and rebuilding efforts with future visits.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex urged people to “open their homes” to those evacuated and “check-in” on any of their “disabled or elderly neighbours” – via a statement uploaded onto their website.
They wrote: “In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life.”
Links to organisations helping with relief were uploaded onto the Sussexes’ news page.
They also shared information for resources such as World Central Kitchen, and other companies that have teamed to help anyone displaced by the wildfires, which continue to devastate the areas.
