Where Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson ultimately live, or whether they live together at all, is a “matter of supreme indifference for the British people”, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told GB News.
His comments follow fresh reports that the former couple could soon occupy separate homes on the Windsor estate.
The Sun claimed on Monday that Prince Andrew may move into Frogmore Cottage, previously the residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, while Sarah Ferguson could take Adelaide Cottage, the current home of Prince William and Princess Kate, who Kensington Palace have confirmed are relocating to Forest Lodge.
However, The Telegraph later reported that Palace sources had dismissed the suggestion Fergie could move into Adelaide Cottage, stating it was not being considered.
The conflicting reports highlight ongoing uncertainty over where the pair will eventually settle.
Mr Fitzwilliams claimed public interest in the Yorks’ housing arrangements was largely one of fatigue rather than fascination.
“Andrew is not capable of analysing anything about himself,” he told GB News.
“If Andrew thinks that having two homes would go down well at this stage, after everything that’s happened, it’s absurd.

“The pressure is building to such levels that they’re just saying almost anything. It’s ludicrous.
“But whether they live together or not is a matter of supreme indifference for the British people.
“Remember, the accusation against them is that they leveraged public duties for private gain.”
He added that the ongoing speculation risked distracting from the wider work of the Royal Family.

“The danger is that important royal engagements — such as President Zelensky receiving a ceremonial honour, or the King visiting the Vatican as Supreme Governor of the Church — are being overshadowed,” he said.
“These are moments that represent Britain’s soft power. But what people are remembering and talking about instead is this farce.”
The former couple, divorced since 1996, have continued to share Royal Lodge, a 30-room property in Windsor Great Park that Andrew has occupied since 2003 under a long-term lease.
The King is understood to be keen for his younger brother to downsize to a smaller property, though Buckingham Palace has not commented publicly on the matter.

Sarah, who recently underwent treatment for skin cancer, has continued her writing and charity work but does not undertake official royal duties.
Elsewhere, Mr Fitzwilliams previously told GB News that the York sisters’ best route forward was to remain close to the wider Royal Family while their parents remain under scrutiny.
“It’s entirely significant from a public relations point of view,” he said earlier this month. “Being with the Royal Family is the best for them.”
