Melanie Sykes, 55, has shared a positive health update and claimed she was suffering from ‘Post-Traumatic Growth’ on Friday
Melanie Sykes has shared a strikingly positive yet deeply personal health update, revealing she is experiencing what she calls “Post-Traumatic Growth” as she continues to battle a serious autoimmune condition.
The former TV presenter took to Instagram and told fans how she was ‘vibrating high’ amid her battle with an autoimmune condition that’s left her ‘two-thirds bald’
The former TV presenter, 55, took to Instagram on Friday to open up about her physical and emotional journey, telling followers she is “vibrating high” despite a year marked by illness, trauma, and hair loss that has left her “two-thirds bald.”
She first gave an insight into her hair loss in April and showed her side profile, where she pointed out the bald spot on her head
In her candid message, Melanie explained that she feels she has “transcended trauma,” even while continuing to live with the effects of PTSD and ongoing health complications.
Post-Traumatic Growth is the positive psychological change that some individuals experience after a life crisis or traumatic event
Post-Traumatic Growth refers to the positive psychological changes that can occur following a life-altering crisis or traumatic event — something Melanie believes she is experiencing alongside ongoing emotional pain.

Speaking directly to camera, she said:
“Even the most difficult times do pass — they do. I want to use this term post-traumatic growth. It’s real. You can be suffering from PTSD and still, at the same time, be experiencing post-traumatic growth.”
She continued:
“I’m in both camps, because you can be both things at once — as long as I attend to myself, what makes me happy, feel grief about what’s gone on, process it, and then move on from it.”
In a powerful moment, Melanie added:
“We can transcend all trauma. We can be changed — and I am living f******g proof of that.”
Alongside the video, she captioned her post warmly:
“Hello you beautiful people, sharing my high vibes today. Love always, Melanie x.”
The former presenter — best known as the face of the iconic Boddingtons Bitter advert in the mid-1990s — first revealed the extent of her hair loss earlier this year.
Back in April, Melanie shared a photo showing a bald patch on the side of her head, explaining it was taken while she was in London investigating a series of worrying health symptoms.
At the time, she disclosed:
“I am experiencing alopecia and heart issues due to all that has happened over the last few months — PTSD, shock, mistreatment, and malpractice.”
Despite the challenges, Melanie has repeatedly urged fans not to worry about her. Last week, she shared another lengthy Instagram update insisting she has learned how to truly care for herself and is actively healing.
“Life is so good,” she said. “I know it because I’m right here, right now, and there’s nothing to fear. There is nothing to fear.”
She added that leaning into faith and trusting her lived experience has helped her regain strength:
“The more I tune into faith — believing that all is well because I’m experiencing it — the better it gets.”
Melanie also made it clear she doesn’t want her illness to define every conversation.
“It’s not that I’m hiding it,” she explained. “I’d just rather talk about something else. I’ve got this down — I’m healing myself. We don’t need to bring illness into every conversation.”
Encouraging others to focus inward, she told followers:
“Attend to your own spiritual garden — your body, your mind, your creative spirit. Don’t worry about me. I’ve got me.”
The star also revealed she is living with excessive inflammation throughout her body, sharing another clip on Instagram while wrapped up in warm layers — a jumper, jacket, scarf and hat.
In the video, Melanie spoke about adopting what she described as a “very spiritual existence,” urging others to try meditation as part of their own healing journeys.
“I’m not well, as you know,” she said. “I’ve been ill all year. I have an autoimmune condition, I’m losing my hair, I have crazy inflammation — and I’m working on healing.”
She revealed that over the past three months she undertook a meditation teacher training course, though illness prevented her from completing the final days.
“I was too ill to finish it,” she admitted. “I don’t necessarily want to teach — but I can do. Mostly, I’ve been living a very, very spiritual existence.”
Alongside the clip, she wrote:
“It’s been a while — I’ve ignited my YouTube channel again after a long period of learning, meditating and healing. This is ongoing. Remember, I love you always.”
