In particular, the British chef and baker, 90, has highlighted something “wonderful” that she has spotted in the Prince of Wales’ behaviour towards his wife, Princess Catherine.

How does Mary Berry know William and Kate?

Dame Mary Berry has met the Prince and Princess of Wales on multiple occasions.

They met for the first time over a decade ago through their shared patronage of the Child Bereavement UK charity, and have since joined forces on several projects including the 2019 Back to Nature festival at RHS Garden Wisley.

The royal couple even starred in a special Christmas episode of Mary’s baking show, A Very Berry Christmas, back in 2019.

Kate teamed up with Mary while William was assisted by Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain as they competed to make the best roulade.

Earlier this year, Prince William also recorded a special message for the baking legend’s 90th birthday celebrations in March, which reduced poor Mary to tears!

“I want to wish you a very happy 90th birthday. You are a true national treasure and we’ve loved working with you over the years,” Prince William told a stunned Mary over video, as she appeared on BBC’s The One Show.

He added jokingly: “Have a fantastic day today. I dread to think who’s cooking your cake and the criticism they might get but good luck and I hope it goes really well.”

Clearly in shock and full of emotion, Mary exclaimed: “What an honour!”

‘He’s such a wonderful man’

Now the baking expert has shared her mutual love for the Prince of Wales in a new interview.

We’re so lucky with our royalty, aren’t we?

“We’re so lucky with our royalty, aren’t we?” Mary reflected on her experiences with Prince William the Daily Mail. “I mean he’s really such a wonderful man, you know.”

“He slept on the streets, you know,” she continued, turning to his work to tackle homelessness. “He wants to find out about how everybody is in the country, he lives for all of us. I admire him. He sets an example.”

The 90-year-old was particularly in awe of the prince’s support of his wife, Kate.

“There’s always a little arm around the back, encouraging her,” she gushed, revealing: “Early on when she started doing public life, he would chip in and say something really nice and encouraging, you know? He’s obviously immensely proud of her.”
