In a time when our country feels troubled, it’s refreshing to find stories that inspire hope. At a local elementary school, Richard Goodall is making a positive impact by using his talents to bring people together, no matter their views.

At Who’s Your Prairie Elementary, the familiar sights of an elementary school greet visitors, but there’s something special about the atmosphere. A flag hangs proudly over the gym entrance, reflecting the spirit of unity that Goodall embodies. As the school’s janitor, he approaches his job with a cheerful attitude, bringing joy to both students and staff.

“I enjoy cleaning and making things look nice,” Goodall shares, highlighting his commitment to creating a welcoming environment. But his contributions go beyond keeping the school tidy; he adds music to his work. As he sweeps the hallways, he often sings, filling the air with the melody of “God Bless the U.S.A.”

With one headphone in, Goodall gets lost in the moment, sometimes drawing compliments from curious students who hear him sing. “You sound pretty good!” they might say, and he appreciates their kind words.

Goodall believes that music can help people forget their differences. “So many things are happening in this country, and people are feeling overwhelmed,” he explains. “When I sing, it allows them to take a break from their worries. It’s about coming together as one nation.”

Whether he’s cleaning the school, joining a contest, or performing at a local karaoke spot, Goodall’s mission is clear: to spread joy and remind everyone of what they have in common.

“I’m just one guy trying to do my part,” he says, reflecting on his role in the community. Until the curtain closes, Richard Goodall will continue to uplift those around him with his music and spirit.
