Wayne Osmond passes away at 73, claims report

Various outlets have reported that Wayne Osmond passed away after suffering a massive stroke on January 1, 2025, in a hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was 73 years old. He is survived by his wife Kathlyn, their three daughters, two sons, and several grandchildren.

In a statement, the Osmond family confirmed the news. “Wayne Osmond, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his loving wife and five children,” reads the statement. “His legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter have influenced the lives of many people around the world. He would want everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families are forever, and that banana splits are the best dessert. We love him and will miss him dearly.” (via KSL TV 5)

Originally from Ogden, Utah, Wayne was the fourth oldest among the Osmond siblings. He, Alan, Merrill, and Jay began their musical career as part of a barbershop quartet in the late ’50s. The group became known as The Osmonds as other siblings began to join. They commemorated their 50th anniversary in 2007. Eventually, Alan and later Wayne retired from music because of concerns related to their health. The Osmonds had reportedly sold over 77 million records.

Wayne was 46 years old when doctors diagnosed him with a brain tumor and underwent surgery. The radiation treatment he received impacted his cochlea and left him almost deaf. In 2012, Wayne suffered his first stroke. Although he recovered, he could no longer play the guitar. (via Deseret News)

Merrill Osmond wrote in a Facebook post that he was able to see his brother one more time and say his goodbyes.
