Snoop Dogg’s daughter Cori Broadus opens up about her lifelong battle with lupus, depression, and suicidal thoughts, sharing her journey of resilience, healing, and hope.
Cori Broadus, the 25-year-old daughter of rap legend Snoop Dogg and his wife, Shante Broadus, has been candid about the physical and mental challenges she has faced since being diagnosed with lupus at a young age. Her health journey, shared in the recent E! docuseries Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori & Wayne’s Story, highlights the realities of living with a chronic illness and its impact on mental well-being.
Diagnosed with lupus at just 6 years old, Cori’s childhood was marked by regular hospital visits, medications, and fatigue. Lupus, an autoimmune disease where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues, has no cure. It mimics symptoms of other diseases, making it difficult to diagnose and manage. This chronic condition left Cori struggling to understand why she had to endure such hardships at such a young age.

The Weight of Depression and Suicidal Thoughts
Growing up with a debilitating illness took a toll on Cori’s mental health. She revealed that depression was a constant companion throughout her life, and the COVID-19 pandemic amplified these struggles. The isolation and uncertainty brought by the pandemic pushed her into a deeper state of despair.
Reflecting on that period, Cori said she reached a breaking point in 2021, leading to a suicide attempt. Seeking help, she checked into a mental health facility where she received the support and treatment she needed. “I was in a mental facility because I tried to commit suicide in 2021,” she shared openly in the docuseries.
Despite the darkness, Cori found solace in the support of her fiancé, Wayne Duece, who stood by her during her most challenging moments. His unwavering support helped her navigate the storm, reminding her that while everyone faces their own battles, healing is possible with time and patience.
Finding Purpose Through Passion Projects
In her quest to find meaning and regain control of her life, Cori turned to creative outlets. She channeled her energy into launching a cosmetics brand called Choc Factory, a project that helped her reclaim a sense of purpose. “I needed something to pull me out of that dark space, and when I found lip gloss, I thought, ‘This could be it,’” she explained. This entrepreneurial endeavor not only gave her a distraction but also became a source of pride and joy.
Her artistic side, expressed through music under the moniker Choc, has also been therapeutic. These creative ventures allowed Cori to process her emotions, share her story, and inspire others facing similar struggles.

Exploring Holistic Healing
In recent years, Cori has taken control of her health by exploring holistic treatments. Tired of the long-term reliance on prescription drugs, she decided to stop her medications and focus on natural remedies. This included incorporating exercise, herbs, teas, and sea moss into her daily routine.
While this approach is not without its challenges, Cori reported feeling better than ever. “I’ve been off my medications for four or five months now,” she shared. “My labs look better than ever. I still get tired, but my body doesn’t ache as much.”
This decision came after years of taking multiple medications daily, which she described as overwhelming. By adopting a holistic lifestyle, she found a renewed sense of balance and empowerment.

The Road to Acceptance
Cori Broadus’s journey with lupus and mental health is a story of resilience and self-discovery. Her openness about her struggles with depression, suicidal thoughts, and her physical health challenges provides hope to others dealing with similar issues. Though some days are harder than others, Cori remains grateful for the opportunity to share her experience and pursue her passions.
She acknowledges that while the journey is ongoing, acceptance plays a crucial role. “There are days I wish I wasn’t sick, wondering what my life would be like if I was just a normal girl,” she admitted. “But bad days are part of being human. You’re not always going to have good days.”
Inspiring Others Through Vulnerability
By sharing her story, Cori Broadus has become a beacon of strength and authenticity. Her willingness to talk about her struggles with lupus, depression, and suicidal thoughts helps break the stigma surrounding mental health and chronic illness. Her journey demonstrates that while the path may be challenging, it is possible to find light even in the darkest moments.
Cori’s story is a reminder that resilience, support, and creative expression can lead to healing and growth. Through her transparency, she empowers others to confront their own challenges and seek help when needed.
