Bronny’s rookie season left more questions than answers but he will have to train hard this summer

The Los Angeles Lakers wrapped up their 2024-25 season nearly a month ago, marking the end of LeBron James’s first chapter alongside Luka Doncic. Although the season didn’t result in a championship, there were still some bright spots. The Doncic-James duo excelled in crucial moments, and with an offseason to prepare, there’s optimism that they’ll be able to take on any opponent next year. Role players like Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura continued to refine their games, and first-year coach JJ Redick led the team to 50 wins – the second-highest total for the franchise in 14 years, since 52 wins in 2020.
Although the ultimate goals weren’t achieved, the Lakers’ future looks promising. There is potential for free-agent acquisitions at center to complement the superstar duo of James and Doncic. There is also the development of rookies, especially Dalton Knecht, but of course, Bronny James, too. This could be LeBron’s final NBA season. The growth of these young talents and his son could make it memorable. However, as LeBron is a cyborg, I can’t count him out until his youngest son, Bryce, also arrives in the NBA.
Savannah James Opens Up About Early Motherhood
In a recent episode of her podcast, “Everybody’s Crazy”, Savannah James candidly reflected on the impact of becoming a mother at a young age, especially following the birth of her son, Bronny James. She welcomed Bronny at 18, Bryce at 20, and Zhuri later on, all while navigating the complexities of raising boys in those early years. The conversation was sparked by James friend April McDaniels’ discussion on “crazy dressing,” which led Savannah to reveal how motherhood shaped her choices. “I think it’s just a level of comfort,” she said, explaining that her stretch marks were a grounding force that prevented her from seeking negative attention.
“Yeah, I didn’t have a chance. I had a baby when I was 18,” she admitted, suggesting that her path might have been different without those early responsibilities. April, who has known Savannah for years, found it hard to imagine her dressing less conservatively. However, Savannah clarified, “I wasn’t happy,” hinting at the toll those early years took. Her comments underscore a journey of self-discovery amid the demands of young motherhood-a theme that resonates with many listeners.
The James family recently celebrated Bryce’s graduation from Sierra Canyon School, where he played basketball. He has committed to playing at the University of Arizona. LeBron shared an emotional post about Bryce’s prom night, showcasing the family’s close bond. However, Savannah’s podcast episode offers a deeper look into her personal growth. She reveals how early motherhood influenced her identity and choices, even as she supports her sons’ athletic careers.

Compared to his draft classmate, Dalton Knecht, Bronny James’ first NBA season with the Lakers was a tale of two paths. Knecht, the 17th overall pick, had a solid rookie campaign. He appeared in 78 games, logging 1,492 minutes and scoring over 700 points, including a career-high 37 against Utah. While not flashy, his performance showed promise, especially after a midseason trade to the Charlotte Hornets for center Mark Williams fell through due to Williams failing a physical, keeping Knecht in Los Angeles. In contrast, Bronny, selected 55th overall, entered the league amid questions about his readiness given his limited role at USC.
He spent most of the season in the G League, averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in 34 minutes across 11 games. In the NBA, he appeared in 27 games, totaling just 183 minutes, with a modest average of one point, less than one assist, and one rebound per game. This disparity highlights the challenges Bronny faces but also his potential for growth, especially given the Lakers’ focus on developing young talent around LeBron.
