A photograph is circulating that allegedly shows White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wearing a black T-shirt with white writing that reads: “Make America Blonde Again.” The picture appears to depict the Trump administration spokesperson taking a selfie in a mirror at a hair salon.
The photo gained traction when an X user posted it in March 2024 (archived). It spread further after President Donald Trump tapped her to serve as press secretary in November, making her the youngest person with the title in U.S. history.
Numerous social media users shared the picture on X (archived), Facebook, Instagram and Reddit.
The image is not the product of digital editing or artificial intelligence software. Rather, it is a genuine photograph of Leavitt. In an email, a White House official confirmed the picture’s authenticity. “This is a legitimate picture of Karoline. Her hairdresser made these T-shirts and Karoline bought one at her salon.”
However, the spokesperson did not specify where or when the photo was taken, nor did they state where or when it was originally posted.
A search of Leavitt’s social media profiles on X, Facebook and Instagram did not uncover the picture in question. Likewise, reverse image searches via Google and TinEye did not reveal the photo’s origin.
Snopes has investigated other rumors involving the White House press secretary, including her false claim that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funded a “transgender comic book” in Peru.
