White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has been open about her 32-year age gap marriage with Nicholas Riccio, as she addressed the ‘atypical’ nature of their romance

Karoline Leavitt is excelling at her career, but one expert has warned it could create conflict in her marriage.

The 27-year-old has made a name for herself as White House Press Secretary and formed a close working connection with President Donald Trump. Her husband Nicholas Riccio, on the other hand, prefers to stay out of the spotlight and works as a real estate investor.

Relationship expert Louella Alderson warned this difference in professions could pose some challenges. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror US, she explained, “While age-gap relationships can face unique challenges — such as differing energy levels, long-term health disparities, or evolving life priorities — success ultimately depends on emotional compatibility, maturity levels, and aligned values.”

She continued, “Karoline and her husband seem to have a strong foundation, which bodes well for their future. However, it’s also important to consider that people change over time, and what works in the present may not always be sustainable in the long run.”

Alderson suggested the conflict is most likely to arise from the couple being at different life stages. She explained, “For example, as Karoline continues to build her career, her husband may be entering a phase where he wants to slow down, travel more, or focus on different priorities. If their goals and expectations aren’t continuously discussed and aligned, this could create tension.”

However, she suggested some ways the pair could get through any difficult patches. “If Nicholas Riccio continues to support and encourage Karoline’s career growth, and she remains considerate of his needs and goals as well, their age gap may not cause significant issues,” the expert told us.

Her comments come after Karoline gave fans an insight into her marriage. “I mean it’s a very atypical love story but he’s incredible,” Karoline gushed about Nicholas.

She added, “He’s the father of my child and he’s the best dad I could ever ask for. And he is so supportive, especially during a very chaotic period of life.”

Karoline also revealed she often tells her husband, “I walked into your life and it’s been a circus ever since.” However, she admitted she feels blessed as he’s “fully on board.”

During an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show, Karoline further praised, “He is my greatest supporter, he’s my best friend and he’s my rock. He’s built a very successful business himself so now he’s fully supportive of me building my success in my career.”

She also opened up about how it all started for her and Nicholas. “A mutual friend of ours hosted an event at a restaurant that he owns up in New Hampshire and invited my husband. I was speaking,” she explained. The mom-of-one added, “We met and we were acquainted as friends. And then we fell in love.”
