The Martinez family, from Flint, Michigan, had been going through a heartbreaking ordeal after their 9-year-old son, Luca, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Despite organizing community fundraisers and launching an online donation campaign, they still faced an overwhelming financial burden for his ongoing treatment at the Michigan Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor.

“We thought we were going to lose our home,” said Angela Martinez, Luca’s mother, holding back tears. “Then, one day, the hospital called and told us: ‘The entire bill has been paid. A private donor took care of everything.’ We were in total disbelief.”

A representative for the Marshall Mathers Foundation confirmed that Eminem had heard about Luca’s situation through a nurse at the hospital, who had previously worked with a community project funded by the foundation.
