Days ahead of the return of Outer Banks on Netflix, the fate of the show has been revealed. It’s a mixture of both good and bad news for fans of the show.

Per Deadline, it has been revealed that Outer Banks has been renewed for Season 5. However, it’s also been confirmed that Season 5 will serve as the final season for the show. Outer Banks coming to an end with its next season was explained by series co-creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke in a statement. The trio shared how it was always their vision for the show to have a five-season run, hinting that this wasn’t a case of Netflix unexpectedly giving them the boot.

“From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship,” the statement noted. “It seemed impossible that we would really get to tell the whole five-season story. With a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting Season 4 behind us, and are turning to Season 5, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season 5 will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet.”

Season 5 is already getting worked on, but for now, fans can check out how Season 4 will end with the imminent debut of Part 2. The trio said that Season 4 was the “longest and hardest – but most rewarding – to produce” of any season of the show. They also teased to fans that Season 4’sa finale is feature length, adding that it’s their “best, most powerful episode.”

Further teasing what’s to come, Madison Baily (Kie) told CBR in an interview about Season 4, “I mean, I think if every other season was, ‘we have nothing to lose,’ this season we have something to lose, and then I don’t know how spoilery, but we kind of lose it a little. I think this season we are seeing everybody really fighting for something, a concise and unified goal.”

The Fan Base Has Supported the Cast From the Start

“It’s been amazing,” series star Carlacia Grant (Cleo) also recently told CBR about becoming a part of the popular series, going on to praise its fans. “Being able to join in with the cast and such a successful franchise, and just great people, and the fan base… The fan base is so, so amazing, and they support us through everything… We have the greatest fandom, so, it’s amazing. I don’t take it for granted. I don’t take it lightly. I know that it’s a phenomenon, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Season 4, Part 2 of Outer banks will premiere on Netflix on Nov. 7.
