The Duke of Kent was pictured attending a rare engagement on Tuesday, just four months after the death of his late wife. The 90-year-old was seen attending the Imperial War Museum in London to observe Holocaust Memorial Day.
In pictures shared on the Royal Family’s official Instagram account, the royal can be seen seated in a wheelchair. It is the first occasion that he has been seen using one publicly, having previously relied on a walking stick.
Prince Edward currently serves as President of the Board of Trustees for the Imperial War Museum.
He was seen attending a musical performance by the English Chamber Orchestra during his visit.
The royal dedicated two decades to military service, having spent 21 years in the Armed Forces.
His service saw him in postings across the United Kingdom and abroad in locations including Hong Kong, Cyprus and Northern Ireland.
His beloved wife, Katharine, Duchess of Kent, died on September 4 last year after 64 years of marriage.
Her Catholic funeral was held at Westminster Cathedral in London just a few weeks later, on September 19.
While the Duke of Kent attended the event at the Imperial War Museum, the King and Queen hosted a Holocaust Remembrance reception at Buckingham Palace on the same day.
Although she was in attendance, the Queen appeared to be missing from the Court Circular.
