TODAY’s Dylan Dreyer had to step in after Al Roker’s dig at Craig Melvin
Al Roker handed out White House Christmas ornaments to his Today Show co-stars and made a playful joke calling Craig Melvin ‘prickly’ while giving him a mini Christmas tree

Al Roker caught viewers off guard with his wisecracks while distributing gag Christmas presents.
The weatherman embraced the holiday cheer by giving gifts to his colleagues, Sheinelle Jones, Craig Melvin, and Dylan Dreyer during Friday’s broadcast of The Today Show. The presenters were talking about the White House’s holiday decorations when Al unveiled his surprises. “I’m gonna gift each one of you, here you go. There’s one for you.”
“I’ll take the whole tree,” Dylan quipped. “This is great, thank you, Al,” Craig responded. The charming ornaments featured red plaques adorned with the White House emblem, dangling baubles, and a small Christmas tree displayed in a crimson pot.
That’s when weather forecaster Al seized the opportunity for a playful dig at his colleague, reports the Irish Star, “Here’s something for you, Craig, since you’re so prickly.” He proceeded to pass a miniature Christmas tree to his fellow anchor. “I didn’t mean to needle you.”
“Thank you,” Craig shot back as his teammates erupted in giggles.
“Somebody’s going to get hurt here,” Dylan chimed in.

Only last month, popular Today show presenter Craig fueled speculation about leaving the program following an emotional social media message regarding his “next chapter.”
Craig posted on Instagram with an extensive reflection on his two-decade-plus journalism journey, which included time at MSNBC.
As he shared the sentimental message with his 432k supporters, certain followers grew concerned, initially interpreting the post as an announcement of his exit from the Today Show. Despite the confusion, the father of two has made it clear that he’s staying put.

His post was merely celebrating MSNBC’s fresh rebrand, as the network revealed it will be changing its name to “MS NOW,” which represents “My Source [for] News, Opinion, [and the] World.”
Posting a photo of himself at the anchor desk, the 46 year old broadcaster shared, “Long before @todayshow, I started my journey at 30 Rock hosting a show on @msnbc, and spent a decade making unforgettable memories with amazing colleagues.
“I’m so grateful for the work we did together and will miss those familiar faces,” he added warmly.

He went on, “Will always be proud of our work-elections, inaugurations, too many other news events to list, a global pandemic, and a total eclipse. Thanks for the memories, and cheers to the next chapter for @msnownews.”
While Craig may pour his energy into delivering the news to audiences, beyond the glare of the cameras, his most important job is at home with his two children: Delano and Sybil.
Craig tied the knot with fellow journalist Lindsay Czarniak in 2011. Several years down the line, the pair welcomed their son, Delano, on March 10, 2014, and later their daughter, Sybil, on Nov. 5, 2016.
