Carlos Alcaraz ya sabía cómo se las gasta Giovanni Perricard. Se midieron en septiembre en la primera ronda del Open 500 de Pekín, con triunfo del español en dos sets, con un doble 6-4. Perricard, de 21 años y en el puesto 30 del ranking ATP, fue una de las sensaciones la semana pasada en el Open 250 de Brisbane alcanzando las semifinales. Cedió a manos de Reilly Opelka, en un duelo de gigantes: 2,11 metros contra 2.03.
Giovanni, que será uno de los 32 cabezas de serie en el sorteo del Open de Australia este jueves, es un potencial rival de Alcaraz desde la tercera ronda. El murciano quiso medirse a él en su primera toma de contacto este lunes con la Rod Laver Arena de Melbourne.
Los dos tenistas se ejercitaron por espacio de media hora en una central que se cubrió para la ocasión debido a la lluvia que interrumpió el desarrollo de la fase previa en las pistas exteriores.
