Prince William has debunked Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s previous claim against him again in a new video released today. The Prince of Wales, 43, has appeared in a new project with former Lioness Jill Scott to talk about the importance of communities having access to green spaces.
The project, which has been launched to mark the 100th anniversary of the charity Fields in Trust, has seen the Prince of Wales team up with Jill to promote the importance of parks and fields, with the pair appearing in a new video together. William, who is President of the charity, can be seen at the start of the video meeting Jill and giving her an affectionate hug.
This debunks Meghan and Harry’s previous claims that the future King does not like hugging.
This was a claim that was first made by Meghan Markle in the Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, released in 2022.
When talking about the first time William and Princess Catherine joined the couple for dinner, Meghan said: “Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot.
“Like I was a hugger, I have always been a hugger. I didn’t realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits. I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside”.
Harry then made a similar comment aimed at his brother in his memoir Spare, which was published in 2023.
The Duke of Sussex wrote in the book about the first time William met Meghan. Harry wrote: “I introduced Meg, who leaned in and gave him a hug, which completely freaked him out. He recoiled.”
Harry then suggested that William does not hug strangers. This is something that William has successfully debunked time and time again, including in this new video, with many royal fans instead noticing over the years how affectionate and welcoming William can be to members of the public.
One royal fan even made a joke about the previous hug comments made by Harry and Meghan in the comment section of the new video, writing: “Huh. I thought royals didn’t hug.”
