The squad still has frailties, and the front office could eradicate it by bringing in a new star.

The Lakers’ Game 2 victory exposed their dependence on Doncic and LeBron James (combined 52 points) and Austin Reaves, while bench players struggled to contribute, it all could result in prompting GM Rob Pelinka to potentially pursue another top-tier player to bolster their roster.

As the assertions on who could the Lakers target are floating, Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen’s name is also making waves.
In a potential trade, the Los Angeles Lakers could acquire Lauri Markkanen from the Utah Jazz by offering a package that includes Rui Hachimura. This deal would center around young talent and future assets, aiming to strengthen the Lakers’ roster with Markkanen’s scoring ability.

Lauri Markkanen, entering his prime at 27, brings valuable skills to the Los Angeles Lakers. His elite shooting (37.1% career three-point average) would enhance spacing alongside Luka Doncic and LeBron James. Markkanen’s size (7’0″) and athleticism make him a threat in pick-and-roll situations, particularly as a lob finisher. Additionally, his versatility allows him to play both forward spots, fitting well into the Lakers’ system. Despite a slight dip in production this season, his impressive 2022-23 campaign (25.6 PPG) showcases his scoring ability.
