The ex-husband of No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani has opened up on the duo’s divorce with a rare comment. The pair share three sons together, Kingston, 18, Zuma, 16, and 10-year-old Apollo, but divorced in 2015.

Now, after Gwen accused former flame Gavin Rossdale of adultery, he has had his say on the breakdown of their relationship. After their split the songstress, 55, claimed Gavin had been involved in a three-year affair with the pair’s family’s nanny. Since their split, Gwen has went on to marry huge Country music star Blake Shelton. Gavin, meanwhile, has moved on and is in a relationship with singer Xhoana X. Despite the previous allegations, Gavin said he remembers his marriage fondly. Speaking to Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the latest podcast of Dinner’s on Me, he said of their previous Los Angeles home: “It was such an exciting time. I was there for a number of years when we were just together, when we got married, we had our first kid there.”

He went on: “Gwen did a beautiful job on the nursery. That house has fantastic memories. We used to have amazing new year’s eve parties every year. We never knew what to do, so it was easier to make the party come to us. Fantastic times.”

Gavin explained how that time was at the “height of everything really fun work-wise,” saying it was “really a great time” for the pair. He said that he had a great memory of their time together in that property.

He then went on to open up on the help he received from his friend Jack McBrayer when his relationship with Gwen stumbled. Speaking about the 30 Rock star’s support, Gavin gushed: “What’s so sweet about Jack is since I got divorced and was raising the kids on my own, he’s come to every Christmas and Thanksgiving that I do with my kids.

The last Thanksgiving, he sent me – and I posted it on my Instagram a little while ago – he sent me an invoice. For his presence! Jack is the best. He’s wonderful. He’s a really good friend of mine.”

Last year, Gavin confessed his “shame” at how his relationship with Gwen ended. “I never thought I’d ever get divorced, so there’s a simple shame in my life,” he said at the time. “I feel bad for my kids.

“I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives. It wasn’t fun for me to come from a broken home. It can be quite debilitating for kids. The overriding thing is you don’t want to let your kids down.”

Gwen previously described the separation as being like a “rest of my life”. In 2016, she said her “dreams were shattered”. The pair initially kept their break-up a secret and the No Doubt star admitted she went through “hell” in the months afterwards.

She previously told America’s Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “Everybody knows what happened next. It was the beginning of hell. Like six, seven, eight months of torture, trying to figure out this big secret.”
