A royal expert has issued a word of warning to Prince Harry after rumours emerged he may be commissioning an explosive documentary about his late mother Princess Diana

Prince Harry has been warned about creating an explosive documentary about his late mother, Princess Diana, with a royal expert saying the potential project may come with “dangerous” consequences.

Rumours have emerged that the Duke of Sussex is considering making a tell-all documentary about the late Princess of Wales as part of Harry and Meghan’s new first-look partnership with Netflix. The new deal with the streaming giant was announced just weeks ago, with many of the Sussexes’ potential projects yet to be announced.

The documentary, if it goes ahead, would reportedly be released in 2027 to coincide with the 30-year anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. It comes after Kate Middleton ‘showed her true colours’ in surprise first meeting with royal butler.

An industry source reportedly told The Sun of the potential documentary: “If Harry wants to do it then Netflix will bite his hand off.”

While the documentary has not been confirmed by Netflix or Prince Harry, a royal expert has shared his thoughts on the potential project, saying if the tell-all programme were to be aired, it would endanger any chance of Harry reconciling with the royal family.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told the Express: “Netflix’s Chief of Content, Bella Bajaria, has recently praised the enormous success of Harry and Meghan’s highly controversial six-part docuseries Harry and Meghan. They want something royal from the couple whose royal links are their only claim to fame.

“This (a Diana documentary) could be it. We know from his memoir Spare how deep his affection for his mother was and how devastated he was at her passing. This is obviously totally understandable.”

“Diana was like a meteor,” he added. “She was the world ’s most glamorous woman, whose charitable activities have rightly become legendary, but who was also manipulative and had a fatefully symbiotic relationship with the media. The War of the Waleses, between her and Prince Charles, which ended in divorce, was ferocious at the time.”

Fitzwilliam further explained that while a potential documentary on Princess Diana could mean a huge payday for both the Sussexes and Netflix, it would only lessen the chance for Harry to make amends with the royal family at large.

He said: “If the proposed documentary featured anything controversial, it would gravely endanger the reconciliation Harry has said he wants with his family although it would undoubtedly draw the audience Netflix wants.

“This programme, especially now that Camilla, the woman she (Diana) regarded as her rival, is now Queen Consort, also, potentially, has enormous dangers for Harry’s future relationships with his family. If reconciliation is desirable, but seems unlikely, peace is essential. This (the documentary), if it happens, could restart conflict.”

Prince Harry has recently spoken of his desire to reconnect with the royal family, but admitted: “Some of my family may never forgive me,” over a series of claims he made in his 2023 memoir Spare, and allegations made against the Firm in Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
