Aaron Rodgers has spoken with the New York Jets to discuss his future, but many uncertainties remain.
The Jets are in the midst of searching for a new general manager and head coach, adding layers of complexity to Rodgers’ situation. At 41 years old and coming off a disappointing 5-12 season, the veteran quarterback’s future with the franchise is far from guaranteed, even though he remains under contract for another year.
Rodgers revealed he had a brief conversation with team owner Woody Johnson following the season, but his decision to return will likely hinge on the key hires the Jets make in the coming weeks.
“I think everybody understands that it’s going to come down to a GM and a coach and myself and whether we all want to do a dance together or if it’s not in the cards,” Rodgers said on Thursday during an appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show.”
Rodgers started every game for the Jets last season, passing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Coming off an Achilles injury, Rodgers doesn’t look like the perennial MVP contender he once was in Green Bay. But the Jets also don’t have a clear path forward at the position.

Backup journeyman Tyrod Taylor is under contract for another season and fifth-round pick Jordan Travis may also be in the mix. Travis has been recovering from a leg injury at the end of his college career at Florida State.
