Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy will make a special appearance on ITV show Lorraine to talk about her life with the One Direction star and his mental health for a brave new interview
Kate Cassidy will appear on Lorraine next week for a special interview about Liam Payne’s mental health.
Liam tragically died last year in Argentina after falling off a hotel balcony at the age of 31. His girlfriend Kate had left Argentina a few days before, as she had a “responsibility” to their dog and insisted there was nothing unusual about them travelling separately.
Kate has remained mostly out of the spotlight in the months following Liam’s death. She went to the funeral in Buckinghamshire last year, which she attended alongside Damian Hurley but she didn’t arrive with her family.
Now, she plans to open up about Liam’s mental health struggles for Lorraine’s brand new March4March campaign, which is being launched to support those who suffer with low mood and mental health challenges.
An ITV insider told us: “Kate has been so brave by agreeing to the Lorraine interview. It is her first TV interview since the tragic death of Liam. She talks to Lorraine about their life together as well as his mental health struggles.

“It’s all part of Lorraine’s new March4March campaign. She was persuaded to take part in it. It wasn’t easy because she has been trying to keep a low profile since his death but the media interest in her has been huge.”
In the interview, Kate will speak about her life with Liam and the grief she has experienced since his shock death. Kate will open up about what life has been like since, their relationship as well as the dark side of fame – and the good memories too.
Lorraine’s interview with Kate will air next week as part of the new campaign, which encourages viewers to take steps outside or inside. The aim is for viewers to collectively walk three million steps – which is equivalent to walking the length of the UK.
In a heartbreaking previous interview, Kate explained why she decided to return to Florida just days before he died.
“I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur. It was a tragic accident and no, I never did think (he might die young). But, you know, we did have our own separate lives — this wasn’t the first time we have travelled separately,” she said through tears the emotional interview a few weeks back.

Following Liam’s death, Kate revealed his plans to propose to her, revealing that they had spent a “beautiful evening manifesting their lives together” before he handed her a note and told her not to read it. The note had said “Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged and together forever 444”, which Kate read after Liam’s tragic death.
A new statement issued by the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 shed further light on Liam’s condition before his passing. The newly-released report determined Liam was three times the US legal driving limit at the time of his death and he would have been left severely impaired at the time of his death.
“The autopsy revealed that the death was caused by multiple trauma and internal and external bleeding. It was also determined that the musician had alcohol concentrations of up to 2.7 grams per litre in blood at the time of death, plus cocaine metabolites, methylecgonine, benzoylecgomine, cocaethylene and the medication sertraline,” a statement read.

Kate was trolled for her previous interview with a newspaper about Liam’s death, but explained at the time that she wanted to “share an insight into the relationship with the love of her life” as she defended her decision.
She said: “The past few months have been truly heartbreaking. I keep hoping I’ll wake up and this was all just a bad dream. Most days I feel numb and broken. The weight of it all feels unbearable. However, after receiving thousands of messages from Liam’s fans seeking clarity during this devastating time, I wanted to share an insight into the relationship with the love of my life.
“This is my first ever interview while I navigate the pain of losing Liam, so please bear with me as I share my experience, which I hope will be received with compassion and understanding. Thank you so much for your kindness and support.”
A criminal investigation is currently underway about Liam’s death at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires on 16 October 2024. Liam’s friend Rogelio ‘Roger’ Nores and four others had been facing charges relating to his passing, but appeal court judges recently cleared three of them and reversed an earlier decision to charge them.

Roger’s lawyer Rafael Cuneo Libarona said they were “happy” with the decision to reverse the manslaughter charge, having argued against prosecutors’ claims that Roger was a representative for Liam and had failed in his duty of care.
Appeal court judges found that Roger did not play a role in his friend “obtaining and consuming alcohol”, nor could he have done anything to prevent Liam’s death in the hours leading up to it. As well as Roger, Esteban Grassi, the chief receptionist at CasaSur Palermo Hotel who made a 911 call before Liam died, and the hotel’s head of security Gilda Martin were also cleared of manslaughter.
The judges felt there wasn’t enough proof they acted in “thoughtless, reckless, or merely negligent behaviour” in their actions leading up to his death. Waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz, 24, and hotel worker Ezequiel David Pereyra, 21, remain in prison after losing an appeal over a decision to charge them with supplying Liam with drugs. They face jail terms of four to 15 years behind bars if convicted
