Kelvin Fletcher rose to fame in ITV soap Emmerdale but has enjoyed just as much success since swapping the Dales for farming life.

The Andy Sugden star relocated to the Peak District to run a farm several years ago, and he and wife Liz now front their own programme chronicling their experiences – Fletchers’ Family Farm.

The ITV series has carved out its own niche in the competitive farm show landscape, with audiences captivated by Kelvin and Liz’s farming adventure, their experiences raising four young children and their sweet partnership.

But what do we know about their relationship away from the cameras?

Kelvin, 42, hails from Greater Manchester and grew up close to where Liz lived.

The pair first encountered each other as youngsters, crossing paths when they were just eight years old.

However, romance only flourished when they reconnected as adults.

Their relationship wasn’t without its challenges, with reports indicating they temporarily separated in 2010.

Nevertheless, Kelvin and Liz reignited their relationship and he proposed during a getaway to Anglesey. The couple exchanged vows in an elegant ceremony at London’s One Mayfair in 2015.

The star has previously revealed that he recognised fellow actor Liz was his perfect match.

“I knew I wanted to marry Liz the day I met her,” he told Hello! magazine. “Deep down I knew she was The One. The image of Liz coming towards me up the aisle will live with me forever. She took my breath away. She looked so beautiful.”

Having children was always part of the vision, with Kelvin previously telling Hello! he would “love to have five”.

Their first child – daughter Marnie – arrived the year following their wedding, with son Milo born in 2018.

In 2022, they revealed Liz was pregnant once more, this time expecting twins. “We’re having another two more children!” the actress announced during an appearance on BBC Breakfast.

“We just recently found out, to add another curveball if you like,” Kelvin explained. “We don’t really do things by halves and then we found out we’re having not just one baby, but two! So we’re having twins. It was an absolute eye-opener.”

The couple recently revealed that prior to becoming farmers, they had aspirations of relocating to the US, but those plans were derailed by the COVID pandemic.

During an appearance on celebrity chef and TV presenter James Martin’s cooking programme, Liz explained: “We never got the visas completed because they said, ‘There’ll be a pause on this for at least two years.’ But we’d mentally moved on, hadn’t we? We sold the house, and we were like, ‘Well, what are we going to do now?’ And that’s when we saw the farm, and it’s literally that, that sprung the idea.”

The duo chronicled their agricultural enterprise in Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure, before transitioning to Fletchers’ Family Farm. With three series already broadcast and proving hugely popular with viewers, a fourth instalment launches this weekend.
