In a monumental three-team trade, the Dallas Mavericks, Lakers, and Utah Jazz connected to move pieces around.
The Lakers received Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris from the Mavericks.
Dallas received Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick.
The Jazz received Jalen Hood-Schifino, the LA Clippers’ 2025 second-round pick, and the Mavericks’ 2025 second-round pick.
NBA fans are baffled by the trade, but Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison said he wanted a more defensive-focused lineup.
“I believe that defense wins championships,” Harrison told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
“I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance.
“We’re built to win now and in the future.”
While Harrison had his idea of what the lineup should look like, it appears Doncic had no idea of what was coming.
According to Chandler Parsons, Doncic “apparently cried” when he found out he was being traded.

Doncic also bought a $15 million home in Dallas “like last week.”
While Parsons claims Doncic bought a new home, another report from USA Today Sports claims that Doncic hasn’t purchased another house, at least according to property records.
It is possible that he was in the process of investing in the new home when he was traded.
NBA fans and executives alike are still scratching their heads about why Dallas made this trade.
Doncic is not only a top-five player in the NBA, but he is also only 25 years old.
In his career, Doncic is averaging 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game.
He was named Rookie of the Year in the 2018-19 season, is a five-time All-Star and All-NBA selection, and was the scoring champion last year.
Somehow, the Mavericks didn’t even speak to other teams to see if they could beat the Lakers’ deal.
According to MacMahon, executives are “furious” that the Lakers were the only team allowed to bid for Doncic.
“Executives from around the league were both furious and jealous that the glitzy, star-driven Lakers had been the only team given an opportunity to bid for Doncic’s services,” he said.
Doncic is currently sidelined with an injury, but he has been ramping up his basketball activities recently.
It is possible he could debut with the Lakers before the All-Star break.
