The Prince and Princess of Wales met President Donald Trump and the First Lady for a short private meeting this afternoon, Kensington Palace said. It’s understood to have been a “warm and friendly” meeting inside Windsor Castle, taking place after lunch. No further details have been given, and it is not known what they discussed.
Their behind-closed-door meeting, without the King and Queen, came after Kate and William led the arrivals earlier. The couple were the first to greet Mr and Mrs Trump after Marine One touched down in Windsor this afternoon.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, who had been waiting at nearby Victoria House, braced against the downwash from the propellers as they walked across the grass to greet them.
Prince William took the lead, welcoming Trump with a handshake and busily chatting away before extending an arm out to his wife to draw her in.
The President affectionately patted the heir to the throne on his right arm and said: “Hello, my friend. How are you?”
Kate, who was wearing a maroon Emilia Wickstead dress, a Jane Taylor hat, and a feather brooch, greeted Trump with a handshake and a beaming smile. He told her: “You’re so beautiful, so beautiful.”
William and Kate then escorted the couple, who walked hand in hand, to Victoria House, where the King and Queen were waiting on the gravel pathway before the full ceremonial welcome got underway.
