A damning new poll has revealed what Britons really think about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s future in the Royal Family. After it emerged that the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh visited the disgraced former royal as they are “worried about his fragile state of mind”, Daily Express readers were asked: Should the Royal Family completely cut off Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor?

The poll ran between 10am and 9.30pm on Thursday, April 9 and received a total of 1,628 votes. The number of readers who agreed that Andrew should be entirely be cut off from the Firm was a staggering 1,118. A further 461 readers disagreed with the statement and a final 49 of those polled answered that they didn’t know.

Andrew received his first family visitors over the Easter weekend when Prince Edward and Sophie stayed for dinner.

Many of those who voted in the poll also shared their thoughts in the comments.

One voter wrote: “He must be cut off completely, his demands ignored. He has no hope of returning as a working royal this must be driven home to him. He should be treated a regular citizen and his allowance and living standards should reflect this. He has lost his right to a lavish lifestyle.”

A second diplomatically said: “It seems they already have cut him off completely but there are members of his family who are concerned about his mental wellbeing and they have every right to if they choose.”

And although he may have led a sleazy private life and is an unsavoury character, there have only been allegations made about him from someone who is now dead. Edward and Sophie chatted with Andrew over dinner, as the family are understood to be concerned for the disgraced royal’s wellbeing.

Discussing the meeting, a source told the Daily Mail: “It’s true to say they both feel sorry for Andrew and how far he has fallen and they are worried about his fragile state of mind.

“They do feel for him, but of course that doesn’t excuse his behaviour. It’s a difficult balancing act supporting him while not condoning what he has got involved with.

“Andrew still maintains [he] has not done anything wrong and thinks he will be vindicated one day but I think Edward will have tried to talk some sense into him and made it clear his days as a working royal are over.”

Princess Anne, meanwhile, is also said to share Prince Edward’s concerns about their brother, though they are clear that he should not appear in public with the Royal Family.

The same goes for Andrew’s two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, as they have not been photographed visiting their father in Norfolk since his move. The last time Beatrice was pictured with the disgraced former Duke was when he still lived at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
