Kate Middleton’s ‘role’ in Donald Trump’s UK state visit that will ‘depend on her health’
The US president is expected to have an unprecedented second state visit later this year
Kate Middleton could play an important role in Donald Trump’s UK state visit later this year, with a royal expert describing her as the potential “icing on the cake” for the US president.
On June 2, a Buckingham Palace aide confirmed that King Charles was “looking forward” to welcoming Trump and his wife, Melania, to the UK.
And, Kate, 43, and husband, Prince William, are expected to play a big role in the event.

Kate’s involvement with Trump visit could depend on her health
Royal expert Jennie Bond told The Mirror: “The icing on the cake for Donald Trump would, of course, be the presence of the Princess of Wales at some of the events and at the state dinner.”
However, Bond warned that Kate’s involvement would likely depend on her health. In March 2024, Kate revealed that she was going through preventative chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer.
President Trump appears to have taken a shine to William after their meeting at Notre Dame.
She then shared that she was finished with it in September. In January 2025, she announced that she was in remission from cancer.

Meanwhile, Bond said of William: “President Trump appears to have taken a shine to William after their meeting at Notre Dame. So I’m sure we shall see Prince William taking a prominent role in the state visit.”
It was reported after the pair met that Trump was a big fan of William, calling him “very handsome”.
Bond said that she believed William, 43, and Kate would take into account the important role they’d play in terms of diplomacy. She said: “I’m sure both William and Catherine recognise the importance of massaging the President’s ego, and they will play as prominent a part as possible. It’s what the monarch and his senior working royals must do. It’s their job and their duty, and they will do it well.”
Donald Trump set for a second state visit
Earlier this month, it was reported that an official invitation – the Manu Regia – was hand-delivered to the White House. The letter, personally signed by the king, indicates that official planning for the state visit has begun. However, official dates have not yet been announced.
In February, a letter from Charles was given to Trump by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer when they met at the White House.
Trump previously visited the UK in 2019 and was met then by the late Queen Elizabeth II. However, he did also meet Charles, then Prince of Wales, at the time.

A second state visit is somewhat unprecedented, with second-term presidents traditionally not being offered them.
However, some members of the public have signed a petition urging Charles to withdraw his invitation.
The Change.org petition, which Nick Bolding launched in March, has hit over 50,000 signatures, and it’s one of 50 petitions in the “Cancel Donald Trump’s Second State Visit to the UK” movement on the platform.
It’s also been said that the visit places Charles in a “constitutionally awkward position”. This is due to his being monarch of both the UK and Canada.
Trump’s previous remarks suggesting that Canada could become the US’ 51st state have sparked criticism. They have drawn anger from some Canadian officials.
