King Charles will likely have “one wish” to achieve by the end of the year as one royal expert pinpoints a sign that tensions with Prince Harry could be “thawing”.

The Duke of Sussex celebrated his 40th birthday on Sunday – with both King Charles and Prince William sending wishes across the pond via their social media accounts.

Speaking about the birthday message from the King, royal expert Christine Ross said that it could be a possible sign that “icy tensions are thawing”.

Ms Ross told Express.co.uk: “Although milestone birthdays are often an opportunity for a ‘happy birthday’ message on social media, we can only hope that the King, Princes of Wales, and Prince Harry are finding opportunities to mend their relationship.”

She also added that with the festive season fast approaching, many people will hoping for a “big family gathering” with Harry included.

She said: “With Christmas around the corner, plans for the Sandringham gathering will be well underway and everyone will be hoping for a big family gathering.

“After such a dramatic and uncertain year, I’m sure the King would enjoy spending the festive season with both of his sons.”

Alongside a photograph of smiling Harry dressed in a smart grey suit, the Royal Family’s X account posted a simple – but sweet – message, which read: “Wishing The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!”

This same image was also shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales’s account, complete with their own personalised message. The couple’s message read: “Wishing a Happy 40th Birthday to The Duke of Sussex!”

It was previously reported that the Duke of Sussex was planning a lads’ holiday to mark his milestone birthday.

The royal was rumoured to be going to a retreat in California with a few of his “closest mates” – some of whom may fly over from the UK.

It remains unclear when Harry is set to return to the UK.
