The pilot and co-pilot of an Air Canada flight were killed when the passenger jet collided with a firetruck while landing in New York on March 22
A new video has surfaced showing the deadly crash between a passenger jet and a firetruck at LaGuardia Airport in New York City on March 22 that left two dead and dozens more injured.
The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. local time on Sunday evening when a Jazz Aviation flight operating on behalf of Air Canada approached Runway 4, LaGuardia Airport and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed on X. Upon landing, the aircraft reportedly collided with an aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicle as the truck was responding to a separate incident at the facility.

“Emergency response protocols were immediately activated,” LaGuardia posted on X. “The Port Authority Police Department is on the scene along with the agency’s chairman and executive director. The airport is currently closed to facilitate the response and allow for a thorough investigation.”
In a follow-up post, the airport confirmed it will remain closed until at least 2:00 p.m. local time on Monday, March 23.
The NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be leading an investigation into the crash, the FAA confirmed in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. Investigators will consider the speed the plane was moving, air traffic control staffing and if anyone was ejected from the aircraft, Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia said during a news conference, the BBC reported.

In an air traffic control audio recording released from the incident, one controller is heard giving the go-ahead for the firetruck to cross the runway before shouting, “Stop, stop, stop, stop. Truck 1, stop, stop, stop.”
Later, two unidentified controllers are heard discussing the incident, with one saying, “I got the word that we’re gonna be closed for a little while,” before the other notes, “That wasn’t good to watch.”
The first controller then says, “Yeah, I know. I was there. I was trying to reach out to ‘em to stop. We were dealing with an emergency earlier. I messed up.”
His colleague then says, “Nah, man, you did the best you could.”
