Tiger Woods’ mugshot has been released after the pro golfer was involved in a rollover crash Friday afternoon in Martin County, Fla., an incident that left the 15-time major champion facing a charge of driving under the influence, authorities said.

The crash occurred just after 1 p.m. near Jupiter Island, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. Woods was taken to Martin County jail after the crash and has since been released from custody after being bonded out. He was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

At a press conference hours later, Martin County Sheriff John M. Budensiek said Woods was not injured in the crash, nor was the other driver involved.

“Mr. Woods did not appear to be injured at all, and the other individual was not injured,” Budensiek said, adding that Woods was “lethargic on scene because of what he was intoxicated on.” He also confirmed that Woods “did exhibit signs of impairment.” However, Budensiek said authorities “were not suspicious of alcohol being involved in this case, and that proved to be true at the jail,” where he blew “triple zeroes” on the breathalyzer test. He refused to take a urinalysis test at the jail, Budensiek said.

According to authorities, Woods was alone in a Land Rover at the time of the crash. Budensiek said they’re “not sure” whether Woods was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The crash occurred on South Beach Road when a pressure-cleaning truck pulling a small trailer was slowing down to turn into a driveway. The driver noticed a Land Rover “overtaking him at high speed,” Budensiek said, and attempted to move to the side of the narrow, two-lane road.

Authorities said Woods allegedly attempted to pass the truck at high speed as it was turning, but in trying to avoid a collision, his vehicle struck the back of the trailer, causing the SUV to lose balance, tip onto its side, and roll over onto the driver’s side before coming to a stop further up the road.

Woods exited the overturned vehicle through the passenger-side door, authorities said.

The news of the crash was first reported by ABC News, and images of the overturned vehicle were later shared by local outlet WPTV, which reported that Woods had not been injured.

The incident marks another car accident involving Woods, who previously sustained serious injuries in a 2021 crash in Los Angeles that required surgery. He was also involved in a separate incident in 2009, also near his Florida home.

Woods returned to competition earlier this week, participating in the TGL finals. It marked his first event in more than a year, and his Jupiter Links GC team lost to the Los Angeles Golf Club, ESPN reported.

Authorities said additional updates would be provided as the investigation continues.
