Former The Only Way is Essex star Jordan Wright has died at the age of 33 in Thailand.

Local authorities found Wright’s body in a drainage canal near Bang Tao Beach in Phuket on Saturday. His phone was located nearby, and he had a hotel key card for his room at the Hotel COCO Phuket Bangtao in his pocket. A cause of death has not yet been determined.

Entertainment Weekly reached out to the Royal Thai Police for comment. Police chief Sutthirak Chuthong of Choeng Thale district police station told The Daily Mail that a search of Wright’s hotel room determined there were no signs of forced entry.

“Hotel records showed that he had checked in alone and was due to check out on March 13, but staff reported that he never checked out,” Chuthong continued. “CCTV footage showed that he appeared restless and was moving back and forth in front of the hotel before leaving the area. His movements eventually led to the location where his body was later discovered.”

Wright was found face down in stagnant water with a grey shirt and black pants, but no shoes. There did not appear to be signs of physical assault.

The reality TV star first came to prominence during his brief stint on the British dating show Ex on the Beach in 2017. The following year, he made his debut on The Only Way is Essex, appearing in 17 episodes. He later left the show to return to his day job as a firefighter. He previously dated fellow British reality personality Vicky Pattison, who starred in Geordie Shore.

Entertainment Weekly reached out to representatives for The Only Way is Essex and Ex on the Beach for comment.

The star’s former manager, Alex Shafiq, told The Daily Mail that Wright was a “great person” in a statement.

“I’m a good judge of character and I knew Jordan was a great person from the moment I met him,” the ex-manager said. “He was a very good looking lad, with a great, wide smile. He tried TV for a bit but DJing was his real passion, that’s what he wanted to focus on.”

Wright had recently moved to Thailand and began posting about the country last December, according to his Instagram. His final Instagram post on March 6 showed various images of him swimming, exploring, and diving around Phuket.

“I’m home,” Wright had written in the caption.
