Despite the final half of Bridgerton‘s season 3 only dropping on Netflix at 8am this morning (13 June), fans have already devoured the lot – and the raunch did not let us down.

It’s been permanently etched into our brains that actors Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton got so caught up in their chemistry when filming a sex scene that they accidentally broke a piece of furniture.

It’s been kept very hush hush what that piece of furniture was… until now.

The critically acclaimed Regency-era romance drama left us all gagging for more when the first half came to an end back in May.

It was a cliffhanger for the ages as we were left with the adrenaline of Penelope Featherington (Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Newton) finally confessing their love to one another and Penelope receiving a marriage proposal.

And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that they got very steamy in the back of a carriage.

Now that we’ve had chance to feast our eyes upon the rest of Bridgerton‘s third season, our pulses have been sent positively racing and we’re swooning over the prospect of Penelope and Colin living happily ever after together.

We knew from the offset that we could expect a lot of steamy scenes this season.

Nicola told Stylist that she got ‘very naked’ for certain Bridgerton scenes.

She said: “I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included. There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice.

“It just felt like the biggest ‘f**k you’ to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering.

“I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: ‘When I’m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how f**king hot I looked!'”

And now that we’ve all seen that anticipated mirror scene, I think we can all very much agree.

But of course, the main thing stuck in our minds was always which piece of furniture the friends-to-lovers duo broke.

Now, we finally have our answer.

The broken furniture was in fact the chaise lounge featured in their steamy scene. (Instagram/@nicolacoughlan)

Back in May, Coughlan told RTÉ 2FM: “We just heard ‘boom’.

“The piece of furniture collapsed under us. We snapped it. It was a very clean, satisfying clean break.”

Newton quickly jumped in to say they weren’t allowed to share what kind of furniture it was.

Well gentle reader… it was a chaise lounge.

That makes so much sense.

The very chaise lounge that the duo filmed their first *ahem, six-minute long* sex scene on.

Coughlan shared a selfie alongside co-star Newton with the two grinning and giving a massive thumbs up next to the broken furniture.

Seems like a job well done, guys!
