Wednesday Season 2’s Stalker Identity Mystery Raises A Huge Concern For The Netflix Show: WHO?

Wednesday season 2’s stalker mystery raises one particular concern for the hit Netflix show. When the supernatural series premiered in 2022, Jenna Ortega’s casting as Wednesday Addams was well-received and resulted in an 85% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes for season 1. According to Netflix, Wednesday remains the most popular TV series on the streaming platform with 252 million views as of October 6, 2024, beating even the record-setting season 4 of Netflix’s Stranger Things. Therefore, it came as no surprise when the series was renewed for another season in January 2023, with Wednesday season 2 set to release in 2025.

Season 1 of Wednesday reimagined the Addams Family character moving to a new boarding school for “outcasts” following her expulsion from her previous school for dumping piranhas in the swimming pool. At Nevermore Academy, Wednesday struggled to connect with her peers due to her cold personality. However, Wednesday soon discovered she had inherited her mother’s psychic abilities, which prove useful in solving a local murder mystery affecting the town and uncovering Tyler Galpin as the monster known as Hyde. Wednesday season 2 looks to continue the plot of season 1’s final episode, with Wednesday gaining a mysterious stalker.

Wednesday’s Stalker Mystery Risks Repeating Season 1’s Murder Mystery

Wednesday Season 2 Needs To Explore Something New

Wednesday introducing a stalker for season 2 risks repeating season 1’s murder mystery. Following the murder mystery of season 1, with Tyler and the secret villain, Marilyn Thornhill, being exposed, Wednesday is journeying home for the summer when she suddenly receives some peculiar text messages from an unknown number. The unknown assailant sent pictures of Wednesday with both Tyler and Xavier, with an ominous “I’m watching you.” Wednesday season 2’s first look didn’t reveal much of this plotline in the BTS video, but considering its prevalence as a final moment, season 2 will need to address this mysterious stalker.

Speaking with ScreenRant, stunt coordinator Vic Armstrong revealed a filming update regarding Wednesday season 2’s progress. Armstrong stated that, “We’re two-thirds of the way through,” meaning the production is on track for its 2025 release, and fans are already speculating who the mysterious stalker could be. Theories range from Tyler’s unseen mom to a resurrected Rowan, although it may be a completely new character that has yet to be revealed, especially considering season 2’s new cast additions. Regardless, the stalker plotline suggests a possible repeat of season 1’s detective work, which doesn’t bode well for the hit Netflix show.

Detective Wednesday Was Fun, But The Show Doesn’t Need To Do It Again

Netflix Has A Large Range Of Supernatural Detective Shows

Despite season 1 setting up a mystery story, Wednesday doesn’t have to follow this in season 2. Season 1 centered around solving the identity of the monster, so if season 2 revolves around the identity of the stalker, it may feel too repetitive. Furthermore, there are already a lot of detective TV series on Netflix, especially ones with a supernatural edge, such as Dead Boy Detectives and Lucifer, so repeating Wednesday’s role as a detective would cause Wednesday to lack variance on the streaming platform. While Wednesday as a detective was fun, the show doesn’t necessarily need to repeat this.

Wednesday needs to define itself further in season 2, moving away from the mystery element and lean more into the fun premises set out in The Addams Family comics.

Wednesday needs to define itself further in season 2, moving away from the mystery element and lean more into the fun premises set out in The Addams Family comics. There are already similarities between Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice – Jenna Ortega plays a moody misfit whose love interest turns out to be a supernatural villain – most likely as Wednesday inspired Tim Burton to make a Beetlejuice sequel. However, with an already-defined detective genre on Netflix and repeated concepts in Beetlejuice BeetlejuiceWednesday really needs to separate itself from season 1’s detective Wednesday premise in order to deliver a better second season.

Wednesday Season 2 Should Deliver On The Things Season 1 Was Missing

More Horror And Addams Family Interactions Would Help

To move away from season 1’s detective mystery genre, Wednesday season 2 should deliver on the things that were missing in the first season. Despite Tyler’s Hyde, the faithful disembodied hand Thing, and Wednesday’s Carrie-esque dance scene providing a horror element to the show, Wednesday could delve further into its horror genre. Jenna Ortega has teased more supernatural characters in Wednesday season 2, saying that “even reading scripts has been exciting, seeing all of the new characters that are coming in. We’re definitely expanding on the supernatural world.” This could mean more supernatural horror may be added to season 2.

The Addams Family was created by Charles Addams and originally appeared in a series of single-panel comics in The New Yorker. There were 150 standalone comics in total.

Another aspect of season 1 that could be expanded upon is the Addams Family. Although season 1 provided a murder mystery involving Wednesday’s parents, they didn’t have a large presence in the show. Wednesday’s ideas originated from The Addams Family comics, whereby each member brought something different to the family. With their presence being so minor in the show, Wednesday separates itself from the strangeness of the family, the one place that Wednesday truly fits in. Therefore, Wednesday season 2 could explore more Addams Family interactions, providing more insight into Wednesday’s personality, and paying homage to the show’s origins.
