An Arizona teenager is missing after she never returned home from school.
On Friday, Jan. 30, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) launched an urgent call for help to find Laila Champagne Garcia, a 16-year-old student from Mesa.
The MCSO said in a news release that Garcia, 16, was initially reported missing on Tuesday, Jan. 27, after she never returned to her home from Red Mountain High School a day prior.
“Laila is a student at Red Mountain High School and was last seen at school on January 26th,” authorities said.

Garcia is described as a Hispanic female who stands just over 5 feet tall and weighs around 100 lbs. She has black hair and brown eyes, according to police.
“The specific clothing Laila was wearing at the time of her disappearance is currently unknown, as is her potential destination,” the MCSO said in its news release.
Red Mountain High School and Mesa Public Schools have not released any official statements tied to Garcia’s disappearance.
Representatives for the MCSO and Mesa Public Schools did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment on Saturday, Jan. 31.

Garcia’s disappearance comes after it was revealed that Arizona is the state with the second-largest number of missing people per capita, according to The Travel.
There are around 1,099 people currently missing in the state, a live tracker shows.
