Wednesday star Jenna Ortega wants one of the leading stars of Stranger Things to appear in season 2 of the popular Netflix series, making fans excited about this highly anticipated crossover.
Wednesday and Stranger Things are two of the most popular shows on Netflix, creating several viewership records for the streaming platform. While Stranger Things is about to end its journey with its fifth and final season in 2025, the Ortega-led show still has a lot of potential to move ahead with several more editions. Ortega is currently busy promoting her latest film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and can’t stop gushing about her co-star Winona Ryder. Both actors have made it clear that they would love to work with each other again and the Wednesday star might have an idea where they could share the screen again.
Speaking in an interview with Games Radar+, Ortega talked about the Netflix series and which actor she would want to see making an appearance in season 2. When asked if fans would ever see a cameo appearance in the upcoming edition, the actor enthusiastically replied that it would be “cool” to have someone like Ryder on the show. However, she realizes how busy Ryder is at the moment and how difficult it could be for her to be on the show. Ortega said, “Man, that would be cool, but that girl is so busy. She really has no time, even trying to get to get together to do this, you know, it was [tricky]. So I don’t know about that but obviously, I would love to work with Winona again, and if it’s not on Wednesday, then it’s going to be on something else, I hope. We talk about it all the time, and that would be really sweet for me.”
While it would be exciting to see Ryder in Season 2 of Wednesday, her appearance might not happen right away. The production of the final edition of Stranger Things is ongoing and the Destination Wedding star would have to return to shoot her sequences. Stranger Things has been a significant milestone for Ryder and made everyone remember how good of an actor she really is. On the other hand, Ortega took everyone by storm with an impeccable performance in the first season of Wednesday and since then, she has become one of the finest young talents working in Hollywood. Fans had fun seeing Ryder and Ortega sharing a screen in the latest Tim Burton film and hoped to see them together again. As a result, the talks of Ryder becoming a part of Wednesday season 2 have picked up on social media.
Despite Ortega and Ryder being good friends, Wednesday and Stranger Things are two shows that keep on upstaging each other when it comes to viewership. The fourth season of Stranger Things went on to become Netflix’s most-watched TV series of all time (English) and held that spot for a very long time. However, in November 2023, Wednesday premiered and knocked off Stranger Things from the numero uno position and became the most-watched English language series on Netflix. As of writing this piece, Wednesday season 1 has amassed 252.1 million viewers, while Stranger Things season 4 is at #2 with 140.7 million views. It would be interesting to see if the fifth and final edition of Stranger Things would be able to clinch the top spot from Wednesday.
The first season of Wednesday is available for streaming on Netflix, while all four seasons of Stranger Things are also streaming exclusively on the streaming platform.
