Jenna Ortega doesn’t plan on speaking publicly about her love life any time soon.

The Wednesday star tends to keep her cards close to her chest—especially when they pertain to her dating history. Despite being one of the biggest rising names in Hollywood today, Ortega explained why she intends to keep her private life private in a recent interview with Vanity Fair.

“I don’t plan on speaking about my love life publicly, because that’s mine,” she told the magazine. “When you know too much about someone’s personal life, then you watch films and you can only see them—there’s nothing worse.”

Ortega also discussed how getting acclimated to fame has been a learning curve for her: “A majority of the last year and a half has felt very far from me,” she said, describing the experience of stardom as “very dissociative and alien and out-of-body.” She added, “When people mention my name, it’s almost like my name has been taken from me. Now I just feel like I’m floating and … I’m up for interpretation.”

Ortega is rumored to have been in a relationship with fellow Disney Channel star Asher Angel. While it’s unknown how long the two were dating, they first sparked romance rumors in fall 2018, when they were spotted together on multiple red carpets. That year, they also dressed in a coordinating couple’s costume for Halloween, with Ortega dressing as Ariana Grande and Angel going as Pete Davidson.

Neither Ortega nor Angel ever confirmed their romantic relationship, but some fans speculate that Ortega subtly referred to Angel as her ex during a March 2023 interview on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast.

“I was in a relationship for a couple of years, but I stopped it when things got too hectic,” the actor said at the time. “And it had nothing to do with them, it was just strictly—I just couldn’t manage all the things.”

Fans speculated that Ortega and Sartorius were dating following the release of the singer’s “Chapstick” music video, in which she played his love interest. However, Sartorius later cleared the air in an interview with J-14.

“We’re really good friends, and she’s really nice,” he said. “It was really fun to film the video. She’s really nice, so we had good chemistry on camera and off.”
