Every De.a.th in The Night Agent Season 2: What You Need to Know

The Night Agent season 2 racks up quite a body count across its ten episodes, but most of them are there to drive the story forward. The new season picks up nearly a year after The Night Agent season 1 ended, where Peter (Gabriel Basso) is on the hunt for the mole that blew an important mission in Bangkok.

The Night Agent’s cast has expanded too, adding new characters like Arienne Mandi’s Noor or mysterious “intelligence broker” Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum). The key threat of the second season involves a war criminal trying to obtain chemical weapons, and needless to say, a lot of people get killed along the way. While the threat is resolved by The Night Agent season 2’s ending, the show has amassed quite the kill count by then.

14The Night Agent Season 2 Episode 1

Alice is killed by Solomon

Brittany Snow as Alice in The Night Agent

Seemingly in an homage to movies like PsychoThe Night Agent kills Brittany Snow’s Alice only ten minutes into the opening episode, “Call Tracking.” Alice is Peter’s Night Action mentor, with the opening finding them trailing a suspected leaker called Warren (Teddy Sears). Soon, their cover is blown and assassins are chasing them. Despite reaching their extraction point, Alice is shot down by Solomon (Berto Colon) as Peter looks on helplessly; Solomon even delivers a second shot to make sure she stays down.

It was a bold move killing off such a recognizable actor mere minutes after introducing her, and it sets the stakes for the entire season. Alice isn’t just forgotten about either, with her death casting a shadow across the series. Both Peter and his boss Catherine (Amanda Warren) mourn Alice throughout, giving the mission a personal edge.

Monroe’s henchman Caleb is shot by Peter Sutherland

Shortly after Alice’s demise, Peter takes shelter in a warehouse. This gives him the drop on a killer named Caleb – though we don’t learn his name until much later in the season. In the premiere, Peter shoots Caleb and flees, but in episode 8, he learns his name from Solomon. Solomon states that Caleb had lots of family and friends, and while Peter mourned the death of Alice, Solomon and his crew mourned the faceless goon Peter killed without a second thought.

This reveal adds a shade of gray to the season because, unlike some other action movies or shows, it tries to make each death matter. That said, considering Caleb isn’t given a single line of dialogue or even a close-up, it’s a little hard to empathize with him, no matter how much Solomon tries to guilt Peter.

12The Night Agent Season 2 Episode 2

Warren is shot by an unseen sniper

Teddy Sears as a wounded Warren in The Night Agent

Peter finally catches up to Warren in the second episode of The Night Agent, having chased him from Bangkok to New York. Peter gets the former intelligence agent to reveal what he sold to intelligence broker Monroe, which involves information on a defunct chemical weapons project dubbed Foxglove. Before he can reveal too much, Warren is shot in the head by a sniper sent by Monroe.

Warren actor Teddy Sears was one of several actors who auditioned for the titular role in Prime’s Reacher; Alan Ritchson ultimately nabbed the part.

In keeping with The Night Agent’s efforts to make the audience empathize with its villains, Warren gets more fleshing out than the typical sub-villain. The show reveals that a nasty divorce was his motivation to sell information to Monroe so Warren and his son could flee the country together. Warren also believed the information on Foxglove would be useless, given that the program was shuttered – he didn’t live to see how wrong he was though.

11The Night Agent Season 2 Episode 3

The mobile lab drivers are executed by Markus

The mobile lab being hijacked in The Night Agent season 2 episode 3

The third episode closes with a mobile lab used to create chemical weapons being hijacked. The show reveals that Monroe acquired the info on Foxglove from Warren in Bangkok, and then passed it on to war criminal Viktor Bala. Foxglove is the name of a program that weaponized certain deadly chemicals with the intent of creating vaccines for them. Bala instead seeks to recreate a deadly gas called K.X. and needs a mobile lab to do it.

In the finale of The Night Agent episode 3 “Government Property,” Bala’s henchman Markus (Michael Malarkey) and his crew hijack a truck carrying a lab. The two luckless drivers are pulled out by mercenaries and while the plan was to tie the drivers up and leave them, one of Markus’ men accidentally uses his name in front of them. After admonishing him for such a dumb mistake, Markus shoots both drivers in the head.

Two Iranian police officers are killed by Sami

Sami holds his arms out in The Night Agent season 2

The Night Agent breaks from formula in a big way with episode 5 “A Family Matter.” This is where Noor (Arienne Mandi) forces Night Action to extract her mother and brother Farhad (Kiarash Amani) from Iran before the latter is conscripted. Instead of sending Peter, Catherine brings in another Night Agent called Sami (Marwan Kenzari) to fly to Iran to pull off the mission. Just about everything goes wrong though, including two Iranian police officers pulling their car over.

Realizing there is no way around being arrested, Sami takes drastic measures and shoots both officers dead. Not only does this establish how lethal Sami is, but also how important gaining Noor’s intel is to Night Action. Sadly, not only does the intel turn out to be less than impressive, but the shock of seeing two cops getting shot pushes Farhad to make a fateful decision.

Farhad is shot by Sami

Farhad points a gun at Sami in The Night Agent season 2 episode 5

Noor’s younger brother Farhad is days away from his eighteenth birthday and is set to be conscripted into the Iranian army. He has no idea that his mother and sister have been planning to flee the country when Sami arrives, and initially refuses to leave. It’s only after he is essentially dragged kicking and screaming along that he settles down, but he again changes his mind during the drive, not wanting to leave his home country. After Sami kills the two police officers, Farhad sees his chance.

He snatches up a fallen pistol from one of the officers and points it at Sami, planning to shoot him and claim he and his mother were kidnapped. After he fires and misses, Sami has little choice but to shoot back; Farhad is killed in one shot, which has major consequences for the rest of The Night Agent season 2 – especially after Noor learns the truth.

8The Night Agent Season 2 Episode 6

Noah is killed by an SVR agent

Episode 6 “A Good Agent” opens on a flashback from 13 years prior, where a young Catherine is on a mission with her FBI partner Noah. They’re stalking out a house occupied by an SVR agent, and when the suspect exits the house, Catherine and Noah head inside to snoop. Unluckily for Noah, two SVR agents were actually staying there, one of whom sneaks behind Noah and stabs him in the neck.

This agent almost succeeds in strangling Catherine, but she gets the better of him. Noah’s death is another example of a death lingering with a character and leads into why Catherine has a hard time trusting Peter. The case that caused Noah’s death eventually led to Peter’s father being exposed as a traitor, and she fears Peter is no different.

7The Night Agent Episode 6

Jacqueline Laurent is shot by Solomon

Jacqueline Laurent in The Night Agent season 2

Jacqueline Laurent is a new character introduced in The Night Agent’s “Tilt,” who is a DGSE agent selling intel to Solomon. Catherine’s investigations lead her to Laurent, and Night Action schemes to use the double agent to lure Solomon into a trap. This involves Catherine going undercover as a potential new seller, with Laurent vouching for him. Solomon not only sees through this flimsy ruse but reverses it. Solomon uses their operation as a chance to catch some Night Action agents, and Solomon shoots Laurent after exposing his plan to her.

To The Night Agent’s credit, “Tilt” fleshes out Laurent somewhat before her untimely death. It turns out she was a good agent who was pushed to the side once she reached a certain age; it’s only after hooking up with Monroe and Solomon that she gained info that put her back on top. Ultimately, she paid the price for her betrayal.

6The Night Agent Episode 7

Three Chemical Plant Security Guards are killed by Markus and Tomás

Markus fires a gun from a truck in The Night Agent

The threat ramps up considerably in The Night Agent season 2’s final batch of episodes. This sees Bala’s crew – including his reluctant son Tomás (Rob Heaps) – obtaining a key chemical they need to manufacture the K.X. gas. They manage to use fake paperwork to sneak into certain chemical plants, but when a guard station at one of their stops sees through their documents, a gunfight erupts.

Needless to say, Markus shoots first and ends up killing two guards. Tomás is given little choice but to fire back, and kill the second guard. This moment sees Tomás cross a line he can’t come back from, though he’s horrified at having taken a life. This might inform a fateful choice he makes in the next episode too, since the thought of actually using the K.X. on innocent people isn’t something he can accept.

5The Night Agent Season 2 Episode 8

Tomás Bala is murdered by Markus

Tomas Bala The Night Agent

Tomás doubts about his father’s plan turn to horror when he hears what K.X. gas does to its victims. The gas burns the lungs with each breath, in addition to also burning the skin. In short, it’s a horrific way to die, and Tomás wants no part in unleashing it. His cousin Markus is already dubious about Tomás commitment to their cause and later relieves him of his command.

In the final scene of “Divergence,” Tomás and Markus have a heart-to-heart, which ends with Markus dropping a vial of K.X. in the freezer his cousin is held in. Soon, Tomás is screaming in agony, with this ending underlining the stakes for The Night Agent season 2 finale. Markus plans to unleash the gas inside the UN building, which is part of Viktor’s twisted revenge plot.

4The Night Agent Season 2 Episode 9

Solomon is killed by Catherine

Solomon looking grim in The Night Agent season 2

Solomon serves as one of the big bads of The Night Agent’s second season. In keeping with tradition, the Netflix series still gives insight into his personal life, including his relationship with his sister. He also appears to be the only character the emotionless Monroe has any affinity for. Regardless, he makes the mistake of trying to take Catherine hostage in episode 9 “Cultural Exchange.” As he points a gun to her head, Catherine is able to push him back – unluckily for him, Solomon backs right onto a broken pipe.

It’s an abrupt end to one of the show’s big new villains, and with Monroe being set up as the main antagonist of the upcoming Night Agent season 3, the broker will need a new henchman at his side. Maybe Peter could himself could fill that vacancy.

3The Night Agent Season 2 Episode 10

UN Security Guards Brahim and Lucas are killed by Markus

UN security guards Brahim and Lucas in The Night Agent episode 10

The Night Agent’s season 2 finale “Buyer’s Remorse” opens with Peter leading a raid on the UN building. Markus and his men are already installing canisters in the air conditioning systems when the raid begins, and they try to sneak their way out. The first sign of trouble is when two UN security guards named Brahim and Lucas search the roof, and are ambushed by Markus and one of his crew.

Lucas is killed by Markus, who stabs him in the head with a knife. Brahim at least gets off a shot, but is too late to turn the gun on Markus, who casually shoots him in the forehead. Markus might be impulsive, but this scene shows his quick thinking, as he soon disguises himself as a security guard as he tries to sneak out.

Going back to the previous entry, Brahim gets off a single shot during the attack and manages to kill one of Markus’ men. The group then tries to slip out of the building during the raid. One of them gets captured as he moves through a room, while another is shot by the NYPD when he threatens to use a canister. Markus and his remaining goon then encounter a hostage as they move towards the exit, but when his man makes too much noise, Markus shoots him himself.

When the NYPD finds him, he pretends to be a guard who just saved the hostage’s life. In the confusion, Markus is able to leave the building with this woman and sneak away with the last remaining K.X. canister in his possession.

Markus is killed by Peter

Markus holds Sloane hostage in The Night Agent season 2

It’s only fitting that the final kill of The Night Agent’s second series belongs to Peter, as he traces Markus back to Tomás’ home. This is where Markus tries to convince Tomás’ girlfriend Sloané that they need to take a private jet out of the city. She doesn’t buy his story, and soon Peter and Rose (Luciane Buchanan) arrive to save the day. After Markus takes Sloané hostage, Rose delivers a distraction from behind as Peter delivers a headshot, killing him.

The duo still have to take care of the K.X. canister planted in the building’s vents, but once that’s done, the K.X. threat is over. Still, The Night Agent season 2 leaves plenty of breadcrumbs for the next series to pick up from, including the fact the incoming President will be under the thumb of Monroe himself.
