Jenna Ortega addresses Wednesday season 2, promising action-packed episodes that feel like movies. It’s been over a year since Wednesday‘s first installment concluded on Netflix. In that time, along with a higher profile in Hollywood, Ortega has become a producer on the horror dramedy. And although specific plot details remain under wraps, the show’s lead star has been candid about her hopes for the Addams Family adaptation’s future.
While being interviewed on the red carpet before the 2023 Emmy Awards, (per E! Online), Ortega confirmed that she’s received scripts for the upcoming episodes and said that Wednesday season 2 will be “action-packed.” She also teased that each episode will feel somewhat similar to a movie and that the titular Addams Family character will still have her signature wit. Read Ortega’s quote below:
I’ve received some scripts for the second season and we’re definitely leaning into more horror. It’s really, really exciting because all throughout the show, Wednesday does need a bit of an arc. She never really changes and that’s the wonderful thing about her.
There are some really, really good one liners. Everything’s bigger” [and] more action-packed. I think each episode will probably feel a little bit like a movie, which is nice.
What To Remember Before Wednesday Season 2
The finale of Wednesday season 1, written by co-showrunners Alfred Gough & Miles Millar, sees the titular Addams family back home from summer break. She receives threatening texts from an unknown number, which amuses her. The texts show images of Wednesday talking to Tyler (Hunter Doohan) as well as getting a new phone from Xavier (Percy Hynes White). The series ends with the revelation that the titular protagonist has gotten her very own stalker.
In previous comments, Ortega again underlined how there had been a decision to lean into Wednesday‘s horror aspects. She also said that the second installment would ditch romantic love interests, following the season 1 love triangle story that included Tyler and Xavier. It’s unclear what this shift means in terms of how the cliffhanger will be handled.
Wednesday season 2 could shape up to be an interesting watch. Teen dramas, which the Netflix series comfortably fits into, have long thrived on romantic triangles and conflict. If that element is deemphasized, at least for the lead character, it will signal a shift not only from the show’s previous episodes but an intriguing change from the way the teen drama has operated, as well.
