The Beckham clan, without son Brooklyn, in Florida earlier this month
Blocking someone on Instagram is the modern-day equivalent of slamming a door — and in the Beckham household, that symbolic door has just been slammed shut.
Brooklyn with Nicola and her billionaire father Nelson
What began over the weekend as whispers that David and Victoria Beckham had quietly unfollowed their eldest son Brooklyn on Instagram quickly unravelled into a much darker revelation: according to Cruz Beckham, 20, it was they — along with him — who woke up to discover they had been blocked.
This unexpected rupture — at Christmas, no less — has stunned observers and begs the question: what would drive Brooklyn, long considered sensitive and emotional, to ice out his own family so publicly?
To answer that, we need to rewind to the roots of this long-simmering family conflict.
The drama truly ignited when Brooklyn, now 26, entered a whirlwind romance with American actress Nicola Peltz, 30 — daughter of billionaire Nelson Peltz — and proposed. Behind the scenes, tensions built immediately when Nicola was left offended after Victoria promised to design her wedding dress but didn’t deliver.
Then came the infamous wedding remark in April 2022, when Marc Anthony praised Victoria — not the bride — as the most beautiful woman in the room. Friends of the couple claim the Beckhams “ruined” the day and left the pair in tears.
Attempts to smooth things over followed. Nicola attended Victoria’s fashion shows and milestone events — including her 50th birthday. Yet relations deteriorated again when Brooklyn and Nicola skipped David’s 50th birthday celebrations, sparking speculation that the rift was still raw.
This past summer became a media battlefield. The Beckham camp were said to believe Nicola “controlled” Brooklyn, leading some to call him “the hostage.” Meanwhile, Nicola’s relationship with Victoria worsened, insiders claiming Posh even coined a highly unflattering nickname for her daughter-in-law.
And when Brooklyn and Nicola renewed their vows in August — with her family present and the Beckhams conspicuously absent — the snub was described as a “kick in the teeth.”
By autumn, there seemed a faint hope of reconciliation. Even though Brooklyn didn’t publicly congratulate his father on his knighthood, sources say there were murmurs of progress.
But the Instagram block appears to have derailed any attempt at healing.
A friend close to Brooklyn and Nicola claims they find the Beckhams’ posts “upsetting” and “anxiety-inducing.” The pair allegedly fear waking up to fresh commentary or speculation:
“It would be in the holiday spirit if the Beckhams backed off for now.”
They insist the blocking stories are a manipulative media tactic and accuse the Beckhams of fueling “gaslighting” and “social media warfare.”
At the heart of their resentment is the summer’s alleged press campaign — which Brooklyn and Nicola believe was orchestrated to damage them personally.
One insider says:
“You cannot cause that level of pain and expect a relationship to reset with a social media gesture. An apology and real change are required.”
For their part, sources close to David and Victoria claim the couple have “given up” on reconciling with Nicola but still hope to rebuild a relationship with Brooklyn.
They describe his absence as emotionally painful — overshadowing key moments such as the knighthood, and now Christmas — although they insist their door remains open.
But those close to Brooklyn and Nicola say such statements only “quadruple down” on the feud and drive the couple further away:
“They are strong and unified. Completely united.”
In the end, behind the glossy façades and billion-dollar lifestyles, this saga is painfully familiar — a story of resentment toward an in-law spiraling into estrangement. The difference, of course, is that in 2025, even family heartbreak plays out on Instagram — and a single click of the “block” button can break the internet.
