The upcoming sixth season of The Chosen will center on the theme of surrender, exploring one of the most significant and emotionally intense moments in the life of Jesus Christ. According to series creator and director Dallas Jenkins, the new season will examine the painful and complex process of surrender that Jesus and his followers experienced during the final hours leading up to the crucifixion.

Speaking at ChosenCon in February, Jenkins explained that surrender will be the emotional and spiritual core of the season. He noted that viewers will witness Jesus surrendering to an extraordinarily painful fate as part of the divine plan. At the same time, the disciples will struggle with confusion, heartbreak, and uncertainty as they try to understand the events unfolding around them. Jenkins hopes that audiences will reflect on the idea of surrender in their own lives, particularly in situations where they may not fully understand the people or circumstances they face.
Season 6 will portray the final 24 hours in the life of Jesus Christ, a period traditionally associated with Good Friday. During this time, the series will depict some of the most dramatic events in the biblical narrative, including Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion. The season will also highlight the emotional turmoil experienced by his disciples as they attempt to process what is happening. Overwhelmed by fear and confusion, many of them scatter as the events unfold, illustrating the human struggle between faith and doubt during times of crisis.
Because of the significance of these events, the creators of the series have expanded the scale of the production. Jenkins revealed that Season 6 is the largest and most ambitious season the show has ever attempted. He emphasized that there is no close comparison to previous seasons in terms of scope and complexity. The filming process has taken considerably longer than before, and the technical work required for the season has also grown significantly.
In particular, visual effects and translation efforts have required far more time and resources than in earlier seasons. Jenkins explained that these elements alone take two to three times longer than they did in previous installments of the series. The production team has also worked to ensure that the show will be accessible to a global audience, which has added further complexity to the process. Despite the challenges, Jenkins assured fans that the extra effort will be worthwhile and that the finished season will deliver an unforgettable viewing experience.
One of the most notable changes for Season 6 is the structure of its release. The season will be introduced in phases rather than all at once. The first six episodes will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in the fall of 2026. After these episodes are released, the season will conclude with a special finale that will debut as a global theatrical event in the spring of 2027. Jenkins described this final episode as a “supersized” installment that will be larger and more cinematic than any episode the series has produced before.
Another major milestone for the show is that all six episodes and the finale will be released simultaneously in dozens of languages. In previous seasons, translations were added after the original release. However, for Season 6, the production team is working to ensure that viewers around the world can watch the series in their own language at the same time as the initial release.
Members of the cast have also shared their excitement about the upcoming season and its emotional intensity. Abe Bueno-Jallad, who portrays the disciple Big James, described Season 6 as the most intense chapter of the series so far. He explained that the pace of the story has increased dramatically and that nearly every scene is filled with tension and urgency. According to him, there are no casual conversations or quiet moments; instead, the narrative constantly moves forward as characters struggle to deal with the unfolding events.
Vanessa Benavente echoed these sentiments, emphasizing how the story’s focus on a single 24-hour period intensifies the pacing. Because the narrative takes place within such a short timeframe, every moment carries greater emotional weight. Benavente explained that the story will feel relentless, with the stakes higher than ever before.
She also reflected on how much the series has grown since its early days. What began as a relatively small production focused on intimate storytelling has gradually expanded into a global phenomenon. Season 6 represents what she described as the peak of that growth, both in terms of scale and in the depth of the story’s message.

Looking ahead, Jenkins confirmed that production for the seventh and final season of The Chosen will begin soon after the completion of Season 6. Filming is expected to start within a few months, with part of the production once again taking place in Goshen, Utah. Although details about the final season are still being finalized, Jenkins acknowledged that the demanding production schedule has left him feeling exhausted.
Despite the challenges, the creative team remains committed to completing the story in a powerful and meaningful way. Jenkins has asked fans for patience as the production continues, emphasizing that the growing scale of the series requires additional time and effort. He expressed gratitude for the global audience that has supported the show and assured viewers that the wait for Season 6 will ultimately be worth it.
