Hate to break it to you, but… Danny Hewitt from Married at First Sight Australia 2026 showed a very different side when the cameras stopped rolling — and the unseen footage has left many viewers shocked.

The 34-year-old real estate agent, who was often portrayed on screen as a cheeky, tattooed “lad” with swagger but ultimately a loyal and protective partner to his on-screen wife Bec Zacharia, faced heavy criticism after unaired clips aired during the MAFS: After the Dinner Party special.
The shocking unseen footage
In deleted scenes shown to the cast at the reunion, Danny was caught making harsh, derogatory comments about Bec behind the scenes. In one particularly brutal hot-mic moment, he complained to producers:
“You’re telling me that’s the best you can bring me? You ought to be ashamed of yourself.”
He went further, saying he could “roll into Coles right now” and pick any woman who would be “better than Bec,” adding that “she can’t be no worse, it’s impossible.”
Danny also reportedly told producers they were “shit at their jobs” and demanded they “bring me better women.” Other clips showed him making nastier remarks about Bec than what made the final edit.
Additionally, he was heard making insulting comments toward fellow bride Stephanie Marshall after a bikini photo scandal, telling her to “F— off, with all due respect” in one confrontation.
Off-camera behaviour

Hosts and cast members described Danny as one of the hardest to deal with away from the cameras. He was labelled by some as the “rudest groom” of the season for his attitude when the production team tried to speak with him.
There were also reports of wild off-camera moments, including one drunken night where he allegedly took artwork off the walls at the resort and had no memory of it the next day.
Danny’s response
Danny has since addressed the footage in interviews and issued a public apology, describing some of his comments as “horrendous.” He admitted he may not have been the “gentleman” he thought he was going into the experiment and noted that his family was “disgusted” by what was shown. He has attempted damage control, framing some of his behaviour as frustration or being misunderstood.
The bigger picture
On screen, Danny and Bec’s relationship had its ups and downs, with trust issues, accusations of wandering eyes, and differing expectations around intimacy and commitment. The unseen footage painted Danny as far more dismissive and entitled in private than the cheeky, redeemable character many initially saw.
This contrast is classic MAFS reality TV — where the pressure of the experiment, constant filming, and editing can create very different impressions of a person on versus off camera.
The revelations have divided fans: some feel it exposed Danny’s “true colours,” while others argue the show thrives on showing the worst moments for drama.
As the 2026 season wraps up, Danny’s off-camera behaviour has become one of the most talked-about controversies, reminding viewers that what we see on screen is often only part of the story.
Would you like me to adjust the tone (more neutral, more dramatic, or shorter)?
