Strictly Come Dancing viewers were left outraged after a ‘Titanic-themed’ dance performance during the Musicals Week results show on Sunday night sparked major controversy. Fans took to social media to criticize the performance, calling it ‘insensitive’ and ‘inappropriate.’

The performance featured a guest appearance from the cast of the West End musical Titanique, a parody musical based on the infamous Titanic tragedy, and which includes hits from Céline Dion like “My Heart Will Go On” and “All By Myself.” The show is currently playing at the Criterion Theatre in London.

However, many viewers found the concept of a Titanic-based musical in poor taste, particularly given the real-life tragedy that claimed more than 1,500 lives. “Who thought that was a good idea?!” one fan wrote on X. Another added, “The Titanic sinking was a terrible event in history – why would you make a musical comedy out of it?”

Fans continued to express their anger, with comments such as, “So disrespectful,” “Remarkably tasteless,” and “A comedy musical about the Titanic? Really?” The backlash grew stronger as the show aired, leaving many questioning whether this was the right choice for the segment.

The performance, which aired as part of the Musicals Week results show, also brought viewers’ attention to the ongoing debate about the balance between entertainment and sensitivity. Many fans felt that such a topic should not be treated lightly, especially on a widely-watched, family-oriented show like Strictly.

In addition to the backlash over the dance, Sunday night’s results show also featured the shocking elimination of fan-favorite Lewis Cope, who, along with his partner Katya Jones, was voted out after a tense dance-off with Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin. Despite both couples having performed well during the week, the judges’ decision to send Lewis and Katya home left fans heartbroken.
