Since the highly anticipated biopic Michael hit theaters on April 24, 2026, critics and fans alike have been dissecting every frame of the Antoine Fuqua-directed film. But there is one person remarkably close to the late King of Pop who hasn’t joined the conversation yet: Brooke Shields.

We caught up with the actress and model outside Craig’s in West Hollywood on Monday night. Given her storied, decades-long friendship with Michael Jackson, the question on everyone’s lips was whether she had checked out Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of her late friend.
Her response was as brief as a “logo three” from Caitlin Clark: “I have not.”
Before she could elaborate on whether she planned to see it or if the subject matter was perhaps too personal, the “Hollywood circus” intervened. A fan jumped in to request a photo, effectively ending the impromptu movie review.
Even in the middle of a bustling West Hollywood night, Shields kept her trademark wit. As she leaned in for the fan’s photo, she couldn’t help but joke about the hardware being used to capture the moment.

“That’s the teeniest, teeniest camera,” she laughed, pointing at the fan’s compact device. After snapping the picture with a smile, she politely wrapped things up and headed on her way, leaving the “Michael” mystery for another day.
The curiosity surrounding Shields’ opinion isn’t just standard celebrity gossip. Her connection to Michael Jackson was one of the most enduring and publicized friendships in Hollywood history. The pair famously befriended each other in the early ’80s—when both were navigating the pressures of global superstardom as young adults—and remained close until his death in 2009.
Shields has previously spoken with deep affection about their relationship, often describing it as “two little kids having fun.” She was one of the few people who saw Michael away from the cameras and the “moonwalking” persona, famously delivering a tearful, heartfelt eulogy at his memorial service. She once remarked that Michael was someone she “loved deeply” and felt a maternal instinct to protect.
The biopic, which features Michael’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in a breakout performance, has dominated the box office over its opening weekend. While critics have praised the concert recreations and the performances of Colman Domingo (as Joe Jackson) and Nia Long (as Katherine Jackson), the film has also faced scrutiny for its “hagiographic” tone—with some reviewers arguing it tiptoes around the more controversial aspects of the singer’s later years.
While many of Michael’s inner circle have attended premieres in Berlin and Los Angeles, Brooke Shields’ absence from the theater suggests that for some, the real Michael Jackson can’t be found on a cinema screen.

For now, the “Queen of the ’80s” seems content to keep her memories private. Whether she eventually chooses to see the film or prefers to remember her friend as he was, one thing is certain: in the world of Michael Jackson, Brooke Shields remains a definitive chapter that no biopic could ever fully capture.
Brooke Shields is an American actress, model, and author who rose to fame as a child star. She became widely known for her roles in films such as Pretty Baby (1978) and The Blue Lagoon (1980), which made her one of the most recognizable young actresses of her time.
In addition to acting, she had a highly successful modeling career, becoming a prominent face for major fashion brands, including Calvin Klein. As an adult, Shields continued working in television and film, appearing in series like Suddenly Susan and Lipstick Jungle.
She is also known for speaking openly about personal topics such as postpartum depression, helping raise public awareness about mental health.
