An 8-year-old girl escaped a kidnapping attempt in Fresno, Calif., where a woman allegedly pulled her hair to get into a vehicle.

The suspect, Tyiesha Davis, was arrested on April 22 and was booked into the Fresno County Jail on $185,000 bail, according to jail records reviewed by PEOPLE.

Davis allegedly tried to grab the 8-year-old girl, whose identity is yet to be publicly released, by the child’s hair to pull her into a car, Fox 26 and Fresno Bee report, citing Fresno police. The girl reportedly freed herself and knocked on a nearby neighbor’s door, where she was brought inside to safety.

The Fresno Police Department responded to the alleged attempted kidnapping on Andrews Avenue, near Shields and West Avenues at 4:38 p.m. local time on April 22, according to the outlet, which cited Fresno Police.

The girl allegedly told investigators that Davis, 37, told her that she had been “stolen at birth” and that Davis knew her name, Fox 26 reports, citing investigators.

When the girl’s parents arrived at the scene, they told investigators that the woman had “no relation” to the family.

Neighbors called 911 after allegedly witnessing the attempted kidnapping.
