Kate Middleton Alludes to ‘Uncertain’ Times in Personal Letter for Her Christmas Carol Concert

The Princess of Wales has released a letter she will give to the guests of her carol service at Westminster Abbey on Dec. 5

Kate Middleton is spreading a holiday message of love to the guests attending her Christmas carol service.

The Princess of Wales, 43, says at times when life can “feel fragmented or uncertain,” the season “invites us to remember the power of reaching out to one another with generosity of heart, understanding and hope” in the new message, released on Tuesday, Dec. 2, ahead of Friday’s event.

She thanks and celebrates those who are joining her, Prince William and other members of the royal family for displaying selflessness in their communities. Her “Together at Christmas” service is a chance to “honor the visible and invisible bonds that unite us all,” Princess Kate writes.

Princess Kate, who is closing out the year when she announced she was in remission from cancer, has written the message for the 1,600-strong guests in the congregation at her carol service at Westminster Abbey on Dec. 5 and for the 15 other services being held around the U.K. over the holiday season.

Written on her royal stationery, complete her cypher, the letter also conjures up an enduring theme for the Princess of Wales’ year and her ongoing belief that being outside in nature is beneficial for well-being.

“Christmas is a time that reminds us how deeply our lives are woven together. Just as the roots of trees share strength beneath the soil, unseen but vital, so too do we,” she says. “We are drawn by an instinctive pull towards belonging and connection.”

Princess Kate was pictured beneath a tree as she released an update during her treatment for cancer and has created a series of special messages extolling the virtues of the natural world as the seasons change.

Her Christmas message begins with a thanks to the guests for joining the service.

“At its heart, Christmas speaks of love taking form in the simplest, most human ways,” she says. “Not in sentimental or grand gestures, but gentle ones. A moment of listening, a word of comfort, a friendly conversation, a helping hand, presence.”

She adds, “These simple acts of care might seem small, but they contribute to the beautiful tapestry of life to which we all belong. Christmas is a time that reminds us how deeply our lives are woven together. Just as the roots of trees share strength beneath the soil, unseen but vital, so too do we.”

“We are drawn by an instinctive pull towards belonging and connection. Even with all the rushing around and familiar traditions, there is a quieter sense of what it calls out in us. There is a softness to the season that reminds us of something easy to forget; that what we do matters.”

“Our words, our choices, and even the ways we look out for one another – they ripple outward, touching lives we may never see. At a time when life can sometimes feel fragmented or uncertain, the Christmas season invites us to remember the power of reaching out to one another with generosity of heart, understanding and hope. This Carol Service offers a moment of collective togetherness, a chance to celebrate the spirit of community and service, and to honor the visible and invisible bonds that unite us all.”

“The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others. As the year draws to a close, I hope this season brings you moments of peace and clarity, and that you too, feel surrounded by the same love and care that you offer so freely.”

Princess Kate closes, “Thank you for the warmth you have given and the kindness you have shown, and the quiet, constant light you bring to others. Wishing you a very Happy Christmas.”

Prince William, 43, is giving a reading at Friday’s service along with actors Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor, but there is no word yet on what other members of the royal family will be attending. In the past, the Prince and Princess of Wales brought their three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. Members of Kate’s family have all attended as well.

The “Together at Christmas” service is being filmed for broadcast as part of Royal Carols: Together At Christmas, a special program that goes out on ITV1 and ITVX in the U.K. on Christmas Eve, with a repeat showing the following morning on Christmas Day.
