Prince George’s Next School Choice Is Becoming One of the Biggest Royal Decisions of the Year
8
Prince George’s move to secondary school this September is quickly becoming far more than a family education decision — with royal watchers calling it one of the clearest signs yet of what kind of future Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales may be building for the next generation of the monarchy.
As George prepares to leave Lambrook School this summer, speculation around his next school has exploded — and no official decision has been announced publicly yet.
That uncertainty has only made the conversation louder.
In a recent interview, William revealed that George had already spent a night boarding at Lambrook — a detail many royal fans immediately saw as a major clue that preparations for boarding school are already underway.
For months, one name has remained the strongest favorite: Eton College.
The prestigious school attended by both William and Harry sits close to Windsor, offers strong security and privacy, and has long been considered the most traditional path for a future king. Several reports say Eton insiders remain confident George could begin there this autumn.
But another option continues drawing huge attention — Marlborough College, Catherine’s former school.
Because Marlborough is co-educational, many royal watchers believe it would offer a more modern route — one that could later allow Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to potentially follow the same path.
Then there’s the surprise contender generating fresh buzz: Oundle School.
William and Catherine were recently reported visiting Oundle, sparking excitement locally and instantly reigniting speculation that the Waleses may be considering a less expected option.
The reported fees being discussed have also drawn attention.
Eton’s fees are estimated at over £63,000 per year, while Oundle and Marlborough are similarly high — adding another layer of fascination to what is already one of Britain’s most talked-about school decisions.
For many royal observers, though, this isn’t really about tuition.
It’s about symbolism.
Choosing Eton would feel like continuity — future king following future king.
Choosing Marlborough or Oundle could feel like something else entirely: a signal that William and Catherine are blending royal tradition with a more modern, family-first approach to parenting.
And that’s exactly why the debate has become so intense.
One path protects tradition.
The other could redefine it.
Either way, the decision around Prince George’s next school may end up saying as much about the future of the monarchy as it does about education.
