Prince William and Kate Middleton go to great lengths to raise their kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis in relative normalcy—but one day that is decidedly not like the rest of us? Christmas morning, when the world watches as the Wales family of five and other members of the royal family make their annual walk to church at St. Mary Magdalene on the Sandringham estate, where the royal family typically spends Christmas.

For the occasion, Charlotte color coordinated with her mother the Princess of Wales, with the 10-year-old wearing a beige coat with brown trim at the collars and sleeves. She accessorized with a dark hair bow, her outfit blending beautifully with her mother, who rewore a brown tartan coatdress from Blazé Milano that she’s worn on at least four other occasions. Atop her head was a fascinator by Juliette Millinery, and she accessorized with a brown and beige silk scarf and chocolate brown boots. Their appearance on Christmas morning came after a surprise piano duet the night prior, which aired on Kate’s “Together at Christmas” carol concert, broadcast on Christmas Eve.

While George and Charlotte made their Christmas walk debut alongside their parents in 2019—when George was 6 years old and Charlotte was 4 years old—Louis came out for the annual tradition for the first time in 2022, when he, too, was 4. In the years since, the Wales family has been a united family of five, even in 2024, when Kate was diagnosed with cancer. She announced in January of this year that she’s in remission from the disease, the type and stage of which has never been publicly shared.

In 2021, William gave a glimpse inside his family’s Christmas traditions while speaking to Radio Marsden, which supports cancer patients at the Royal Marsden Hospitals in London—where Kate would receive treatment three years later. Young patients asked the future king holiday-themed questions (per People), where he admitted that food is “quite important” around Christmas and that he always finds “a tiny bit of space left in my stomach somewhere for a bit of turkey or sausage or a bit of wine.”

“For me, generally, bringing the family together at Christmastime is always lovely because we’re quite spread out doing our things a lot of time throughout the year,” he continued. “We get very few moments to actually come together. When I see my children meet up with my cousin’s children, and they all have a wonderful time playing together, it’s very special. I look forward to that a lot.”

He added that “Obviously, Christmas is a new dynamic when you have children. Suddenly it’s a whole different ballgame of noise and excitement.” He shared that Monopoly and Risk are favorite board games in his household, and that his favorite Christmas movie is Elf. He said that his go-to Christmas song was “Feliz Navidad,” and made American parents’ mouths drop when he admitted, “I don’t know what Elf on a Shelf is.”
