Coronation Street has confirmed a major new storyline for Sam Blakeman, as the young character begins to uncover the disturbing truth behind Will Driscoll’s grooming — and the dangerous role played by his coach, Megan Walsh.

Viewers recently learned of Will and Megan’s secret relationship shortly after the Driscoll family arrived in Weatherfield. When Will asked to return to Hull to continue his sports training, his grandmother Maggie intervened — paying Megan to relocate to Manchester instead, completely unaware of the true nature of their connection.

Since then, Megan has continued to groom Will while publicly pursuing a relationship with Daniel Osbourne. With Maggie already aware of Will’s growing jealousy towards Daniel, it appears only a matter of time before Megan’s manipulation is exposed.

Speaking about the Driscoll family’s arrival and the dark storyline ahead, Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks hinted that viewers have seen “only the tip of the iceberg”.

“They’re such a fantastic family with a brilliant dynamic in the pub,” she said. “I adore them. But there is so much more to come for this family — we’ve only scratched the surface.”

Brooks confirmed that the storyline involving Will and Megan will sit at the heart of the drama, warning that the consequences will be severe once the truth emerges.

“Obviously, the ongoing story with Will and Megan is huge for them,” she explained. “We’ve already seen what Maggie is capable of when it comes to protecting her boys. She has this fierce loyalty and instinct to shield her children and grandchildren at all costs. So when this awful secret finally comes out, it’s not going to go down well.”

The producer also revealed how Sam Blakeman — Eva Price’s step-nephew — will become entangled in the storyline, with devastating consequences for his mental health.

“Sam is semi-related to the pub family, and he potentially senses that something isn’t right,” Brooks said. “We’ll see the lengths Megan will go to in order to manipulate Sam and keep him quiet — and it will be massively detrimental to Sam’s wellbeing.”

She went on to tease an “explosive” confrontation once Eva Price, Leanne Battersby and Toyah Battersby realise that their sons have been manipulated.

Brooks also highlighted the emotional journey ahead for Will’s father Ben, as the family struggles to navigate a situation they never imagined facing.

“It’s a real journey for Ben,” she said. “They’re all tested as a family unit. But at the heart of it, they love each other deeply. It’s about how they overcome these enormous hurdles, how they protect Will, and how far they’re willing to go.”

She added a final warning: “Maggie is a fiery one — and I’d definitely keep an eye on Maggie.”
