From their early days as newly-weds to now parents of three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – William and Catherine have always stood by each other’s side. This has especially been the case over the last few years as the family has faced some difficult times, including during Princess Catherine’s cancer treatment in 2024.

While today will therefore be a special celebration for the couple as they look at their married life together so far, they will also no doubt reminisce on their beautiful wedding day.
This may include moments of reflection about their Westminster Abbey wedding ceremony.
The ceremony was memorable for many reasons, with both William and Catherine looking delighted to be tying the knot.
However, some nerves may have also been present, with William even cracking a joke before exchanging vows at the altar.
According to royal author Marcia Moody in her 2013 book ‘Kate: A Biography’, William made a joke when Catherine and her father, Michael Middleton, finished walking down the aisle.

The prince turned to Michael and joked: “Just a quiet family wedding!”
This prompted a laugh from Catherine, who had walked past over 1,500 guests and knew the entire ceremony was being televised around the world.
As well as making this joke at the altar, William also made sure to tell his bride how “beautiful” she looked. As she arrived at the end of the aisle, he reportedly said: “You look beautiful.”
It is not known how William and Catherine are celebrating their anniversary today.
