Er, Meghan Markle Might Not Have Spoken to Her Dad Thomas After His Emergency Leg Amputation Surgery…
Hospital officials say that contact between Meghan and Thomas “didn’t happen.”
Meghan Markle was recently reported to have contacted her estranged father, Thomas Markle, following his recent leg amputation surgery.
Thomas alleges he hasn’t heard from Meghan yet, but is still open to reconciling with her in the future.
Reports claim that Meghan did reach out to her father, but used a method of communication that he no longer uses.
Meghan Markle may literally be married to British royalty, but she deals with family drama just like the rest of us mere mortals.
The Duchess of Sussex made headlines over the weekend after it was reported that she contacted her estranged father, Thomas Markle, following his recent hospitalization. As a refresher, Thomas—who resides in the Philippines—was placed into the ICU earlier this week to have an emergency surgery that resulted in hislower left leg and foot getting amputated after doctors found the presence of a blood clot.
A spokesperson later told People on Dec. 5 that Meghan got in touch with Thomas after years of estrangement. “I can confirm she has reached out to her father,” the spokesperson told the magazine on Dec. 5.
What Everyone’s Reading
But in a new update from The Mail on Sunday, Thomas is alleging that he is “confused” by that claim, as he “had not received any messages [from Meghan], despite not changing his phone number.”
A source at the hospital where Thomas is being treated at chimed in, telling the outlet, “If Meghan or anyone connected with her had called here we would have known … we were all confused when we saw the story that the duchess had reached out to her dad. As far as we are aware it didn’t happen.”
People later clarified that Meghan did contact Thomas, just not over the phone or through a video call. She emailed Thomas, with the outlet noting that the message “did not generate an error or bounce-back notification” and that “efforts to obtain updated contact information for Thomas are ongoing.” The Mail on Sunday additionally learned that the email was “sent to an address that he hasn’t used for at least five years.”
Despite the misunderstanding, Thomas is still looking forward to the day that he gets to make amends with Meghan.
“I’ve always said I am open to reconciling with my daughter. I have never stopped loving her,” he told The Mail on Sunday. “I don’t want to die estranged from Meghan. I want to meet my grandkids. It might be nice to meet her husband, too.”
