Why Kate Middleton and Prince William Are Reportedly Moving Into Their $21 Million “Forever Home” Even Sooner Than Expected
Originally expected to be in their new home by Christmas, the Wales family is now said to be moving significantly before the holiday.
It was originally thought that Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three kids would be relocating from the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage to the eight-bedroom Forest Lodge by the end of the year—the Christmas holiday specifically. Now, according to a new report, they’re expected to be in what’s being dubbed as their “forever home” far sooner, in just three weeks’ time.

According to The Daily Mail, the Wales family of five is now expected to move house by November 5, with the outlet reporting that “builders have been working around the clock to bring their moving date forward.” Even after the Prince of Wales becomes king someday, the family intend to stay at Forest Lodge rather than move into a royal residence like Buckingham Palace (which is undergoing extensive renovations until 2027).
Rebecca English of The Daily Mail reported that the work on Forest Lodge is “now complete,” adding that William and Kate are hopeful that their move to the Georgian mansion is “imminent.” Staff is “now transferring the family’s belongings into the newly renovated property,” English reported.

“It is hoped they will be in the new home in time for Bonfire Night,” a source told The Daily Mail, referring to November 5—also known as Guy Fawkes Night—which is celebrated with bonfires and fireworks in the U.K. “That will make a fun start for the children,” the insider added.
Interestingly, William might not be present for the move, as he is set to head to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the fifth iteration of his Earthshot Prize Awards, which also coincidentally falls on November 5 this year.

Through this move, the Prince and Princess of Wales are looking for a “fresh start” for their kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The family moved into Adelaide Cottage in the late summer of 2022, just before Queen Elizabeth died; since then, both the Princess of Wales and King Charles have been diagnosed with cancer. While Kate is in remission, the King’s cancer treatment continues.
“Adelaide Cottage really does have some difficult memories associated with it, sadly,” a source said. “They have experienced some of their most challenging times there.”
“The family are really happy about this [move] and excited for a fresh start,” the insider continued.

A different source told The Daily Mail that “The builders have been working flat out, week-in, week-out, so that the family could move in as soon as possible. Christmas was always the deadline, but it’s great that it’s going to happen much earlier.”
Renovations to Forest Lodge—which the Prince and Princess of Wales have paid for themselves—are modest and both internal and external, including new doors and windows, the stripping out of walls, renovated ceilings, and new floors, English reported.

Rather than leaving the move up to staff, Kate has been deeply involved in the move, and “I think it’s been quite a fun process for her,” the source said. “She loves interior design and is a big champion of the British textiles industry. After all, this will be their forever home. They are ready as a family to move forwards.”
